Verizon currently has a cable laid in the grass between my neighbor's home and mine; it then crosses the middle of my back yard and then goes into the neighbor's home on the other side of my house. Since that path crosses an area where we have planned to do some additional landscaping, I was wondering what rights I have to object to their placement of the line. I thought they had access to about 6 feet from the road, but not all across my entire property. Anyone know what the rules and rights are regarding their access and what I can and can't prohibit?

I'm hoping it is a temporary line and that they will use the front yard for a permanent solution, but I'm hoping to avoid that line around my house if I can.

    Thanks!

If it's a cable laid on top of the grass going from a box to a home, it's more than likely a temporary line put in place so that your neighbor can have service until the location can be visited by Miss Utility and have the underground lines marked, and a team can come in to put the 'permanent' connection underground. The location of the temporary cable will NOT be the permanent location of the underground cable if it crosses the middle of your property. They probably did it that way for 'convenience'. It could take a few days or it could take 2-3 weeks before they complete the work. I would suggest that if the cable is still going across your property in 3-4 weeks, give Verizon a call.

For what it's worth, this is pretty standard practice.

I'd start calling after 1-2 days!! I can't imagine telling my kids they can't run around in the backyard because there is a wire going to the neighbor's house! Now, if Verizon would have come and talked with me and laid some extra so it could hug the home's foundation that would be different.

For the past couple months, I've noticed a cable running between two green boxes (behind Autumnwood Square and Harvest Green Terrace). It spans about 50 yards of common area. Should I report it to Verizon or the HOA?

Yea, I noticed it as well. The issue is it could belong to Verizon or Comcast. My guess is it's Comcast since all the Verizon infrastructure is fiber and this cable isn't fiber. That being said, being able to find the right person/dept to report this to might be a challenge. Maybe their repair line?

I'm hoping it gets mowed over and cut so that they'll come down and do something. :devil2: That cable has been there for over 4-5 weeks...

I'll check with the HOA and see if there's anything we can do. My guess is they will meet with the same challenges of finding out exactly who to report this to in order to get it removed.

Our friends @Verizon said it's Comcast and they already alerted them to look into it.
