The news article mentions "less than 40 homes" would be impacted by the tax increase. Where are these "less than 40 homes" located?

betting on the future to pay today's bills tho.

I still see huge amounts of general fund dollars to pay for metro - but at least the county as a whole will be paying for it. Which is IMO - good.

That's an assumption. If there is a shortfall, the Board could look at many different ways to pay for it.....including the 1 or 2 mile tax districts.

And restart the same circus? Its not like such a problem is going to wait 10-20 years to pop-up.. its going to be almost immediate. I think it will get swept under the rug in the larger budget. but maybe it's wishful thinking...

Worry about how to pay for it later. Isn't that how we do it in in America?

You have to make Capital investments...why do you see this so differently than any other infrastructure investment?

I don't. I think they all should be private.

Actually, no. They have a financing plan with the Tax District surrounding the Metro stops. Most of these landowners were supportive of the tax....because they know that Metro just made their property much more valuable.
This plan was critical to Ken Reid who then changed his vote.

Will there be some shortages? Good probability. But the amount that would need to be supplemented will be much smaller.
I have no problem paying a little more for the benefits Metro will bring to the county.

You mean like everybody who's purchased a home with a mortgage? There's nothing inherently wrong with borrowing to pay for large purchases or projects. If we only ever spent based on what we could afford at this moment, virtually no major infrastructure projects would be built, nobody would own real estate, and a good number of people wouldn't even be able to buy cars.

In other words, why should we have to pay for 100% of Metro today when it's going to be a piece of infrastructure that's going to be in use for 50+ years?

No, not like that. More like Amtrak or USPS. It should be financed with private capital and the plan should be that the users will pay back the investors.. Otherwise it shouldn't happen.

Amtrak is subsidized by the Federal Gov and the USPS receives some taxes. So, how exactly are they private? Neither really are.

As for the Greenway, seriously? It's a private entity that is charging a huge amount to provide a road. A Gov run toll road wouldn't cost us as much as the Greenway does.

It's being funded by a tax against businesses that do not yet exist. What will fund construction until these tax districts actually get populated by businesses that will generate tax revenue?

The greenway is a wonderful road that serves it's purpose. I am willing to pay for the convienence. It is always in wonderful condition. It was built under budget and ahead of schedule. It is a model that should be copied. Who is going to oversee this project? MWAA? They have a wonderful track record.
