As I was heading down Ellzey toward Chickacoan after dropping off my kids at Hillside, a child came flying out of Golden Autumn his on skateboard. He did not look in either direction or even slow down before crossing Ellzey. He was wearing a while helmet and I assume he was a Hillside student. If anyone knows this kid's parents, please let them know their child is taking unnecessary risks. I got quite a scare!

Sounds like the same kid I saw come flying out of there yesterday. I saw him ahead of time and slowed as he was coming fast and I had a feeling he wasn't going to stop. Scary.

And this morning I almost hit an older silver Odyssey (95 or older) pulling out of the townhouses off Ellzey whose driver did not look in either direction. Good thing the skateboarder wasn't just up the street at the same time.

    I'll be the bad guy.

As I drive through out neighborhood at between 15-20 with these very interactions in mind, I feel that I have no problem ensuring the safety of your 100 lb. kid around my 3700 lb. vehicle. I'm the one driving it and I will act responsibly and not blame everyone around for not staying out of my way. I understand that they live here too.

This is the place where they get to grow up and I refuse to abide by the selfish "whatever it is that I'm doing is more important than your well-being" attitude that seems to permeate this area.

Hmmmmm, sounds like just what I posted above. I saw the child coming, slowed down, and made sure he was safe. Nice to know you're so far better than the rest of us though.............

I think the concern is that there are times that even someone driving between 15-20 miles an hour, even someone "acting responsibly" and trying to ensure the safety of others isn't always able to react quickly enough if a child comes flying out in front of them suddenly. A child who is placing their well-being at risk should be warned.

I live on Vestals Gap and in *my* opinion, it might as well be a NASCAR speedway, so I am hyper aware of driving gently through the neighborhood. That said, as a parent, I would also want to know if my child was putting himself in harm's way so that I could talk to him about it. Even the most responsible kids need to be reminded every once in a while. Thank you KCChoi for taking the time to post this. Hopefully, the parent of the child will see it.

I see the same problem on Ridgeway and even though I keep the speed way under 25, from time to time I see kids not paying attention and darting across the road. When it comes to driving in a neighborhood, you have to be fully alert because not everyone else is. And yes, the parents of the children who don't respect a busy street need to be informed. So glad, KCChoi, you posted.
