My husband and I are discussing sending our two daughters (ages 12 & 10) to sleep-away camp this summer. It is an experience we would love for them to have (at least once!). Does anyone have a camp they use/have used and can recommend? Within a 2-3 hour driving distance from Ashburn would be preferable. Thanks for any help/suggestions!

If you're Jewish, Camp Louise in Thurmont, MD. is an excellent choice. My daughter went there and my sons went to the boys' camp; Camp Airy. Both are adjacent to Camp David, but only presidents can go there.

We are considering sending our 10 year old boy away for camp this summer. Looking forward to hearing more suggestions.

My son did two camps last summer- Marine Science Consortium near Chincoteague and Camp Motorsports at the Virginia International Raceway (they are moving next summer to another location). The first camp had more girls than boys and the second had more boys than girls. They were both fantastic and he matured so much for the experiences. He was ten last summer.

you don't have to be a girl scout (although you have to be a girl) to do their sleep away camps. my daughter (11) has done them for several years now and they are fantastic. locations from as close as leesburg to as far as the washington national forest. we have done both of the aforementioned. check out the website www.gscnc.org for more info. i HIGHLY recommend and if you want to ask me any questions- just PM me.

I am looking for a camp that is less than a week long - seeing as this is a first timer, really want to find a half week overnight camp.

I think the broadlands nature center offered some camps that include two or three nights at Banshee Reeks park. But I doubt it's like the "normal" camp experience.

Hi, I have been going for 7 years now to a camp called camp eagle ridge. (I am 14 years old). This camp seriously changed my life. You expect to go there and meet best friends? You don't. You get a family. This camp is special in so many different ways. First of all, there are no electronics allowed. No cellphones, no iPads, no iPods, nothing. yes it can be hard at first but I think that it's INCREDIBLY nice. you go away from all of that for as long as you go. This camp allowed 7-17 year olds to come. Learn more about this camp at campeagleridge.com. You won't regret it!

Certifikid has a coupon for a two week overnight camp somewhere in New Hampshire for $900. Super cheap for two weeks of overnight camp. I know nothing about the camp though.

Yes, it is pretty far, but it's TOTALLY worth it. There is a bus to drive there in Milwaukee. A lot of the campers (including myself) drive up there to go together. You won't regret it.

A friend of mine from college who lives in Norfolk sends her son to Camp Greenbrier every summer; her husband went as a child too. She raves about it.

I was recently told about a really good overnight camp outside of Charlottesville, VA but I don't recall the name (we're not quite ready for overnight camp yet).

We got a card in the mail for a camp called Explo. For the younger kids it's held lusher of Boston. It looks very cool but it is not cheap... Www.Explo.org
