We receive unsolicited copies of The Loudoun Times Mirror every Wednesday. Many of my neighbors take no responsibility for these copies. They end up polluting the neighborhood. I have asked the editor to stop this practice. If you agree, then he can be reached at:

The ideal thing would be to get the paper stopped for those neighbors who do not take responsibility.

Why should people be responsible for newspapers they've never ASKED to be sent? Why should they have to get off their duff and pick up the newspapers that they never asked for in the first place? Its the newspaper companies that are throwing the newspapers on people's driveways. Its the newspaper companies that are willfully throwing them there polluting the environment. Its the companies that should be told to STOP. They are the CAUSE of the problem.

I don't fault your neighbors for not wanting to pick up the newspapers. If they want the newspaper, they can subscribe to it. They aren't asking for free handouts.

imho they should send a postcard to all residents that they are delivering these papers to and ask them to opt IN to getting a newspaper otherwise delivery stops after xx date. yes they will have a decrease in newspaper distribution but that will also save them a ton of $$$ in producing instant recycling which is what they are doing now!

i agree that we shouldn't be forced to opt OUT, it's the same as spam in an inbox.

Funny thing is, it's the same neighbors who don't pick up the paper whose recyclables and trash are strewn all over the neighborhood on windy trash pick up days. In my opinion, IT IS their responsibility to pick up THEIR garbage. It is also the same neighbors who can not take in their trash cans after pick up and leave the cans at the curb for days. Again, in my opinion they are just plain lazy.

Funny thing is when we first moved to Ashburn Farm in 1995, we had to pay an annual subscription to get the Loudoun Times-Mirror. Several years ago they stopped subscriptions and just started delivering to everyone. This is not the paper's issue, it's the neighbors issue. It's not all that difficult to pick up the paper and throw it in the trash or recycling. We get lots of other paper besides that one newspaper, so why target them alone?

Sorry, I disagree with you. Its NOT the neighbor's issue. The newspaper is dumping the paper on their property WITHOUT asking them if they want it. To me, its like littering. Too many people are TIRED of having to go OUT and GET the paper to throw it in recycling / Trash. Do you realize how much paper is wasted since not many bother to read it?

Its NOT just them alone...there are OTHER newspapers that are problematic. Newspaper companies don't give a damn where they dump their papers at.

I like local news and value the paper. Is it really that big of a deal to throw it out if you don't want it?
