I need to get to the airport tomorrow morning and am thinking that a cab is the best way (vs. a supershuttle type arrangement) - any recommendations on what company to call and how far in advance to call?

    Thanks!

FWIW we determined that Dulles Taxi is a little less expensive than Washington Flyer, the cars are a little older but they've never failed on a pickup.

Also, works out about the same I think on the Greenway vs. Waxpool etc cost-wise. We've not definitively proven this but it seems pretty close.

I've used Dulles Taxi many times based on referrals from this forum and have never been disappointed.

I am a long time user of Dulles Taxi. I hate the monopoly that Dulles Flyer has. The ownership of that outfit is pretty shady if you ask me. Also if you talk to drivers of Dulles Flyer they really get a raw deal based on fees they pay to DF.

Additionally, Dulles Taxi usually pays the greedway tolls, then collects upon completion of the trip. DF makes you pay the toll as they go through them.

One tip, ask for a non-smoking cab and you'll get a nicer cleaner one.

I used to use Dulles Taxi, then I tried CITY Cabs and Limo - 703-542-TAXI(8294). Ive used City for trips to the airport, Reston and into DC and back. Never been disappointed and there fleet is mostly newer town cars.

I will not use Washington Flyer ever - I too hate the monopoly they have on the business at the airports.

Washington Flyer costs about $20 plus 3.70 greenway tool. If you take waxpool, it is around $24.

I've been sending texts to my gmail so we could figure this out, for two people:

Dulles Taxi (waxpool) to airport 26.50

Washington Flyer (waxpool) from airport 27.50

Washington Flyer greenway from airport 24.50 plus toll

Coming back the greenway is about the same plus you usually just want to be home.

City Cabs is still king. Kumar has expanded to over 10 drivers and started getting SUV's in addition to his town cars.

(You probably see him picking me up across the street sometimes ;)

Depending on who you use its probably between $75-100.

Just checked City Cabs website they show approximate $75

Can anybody provide updates on Taxi service to Dulles/IAD?
    • City Cabs -
    • Washington Flyer -
    • Dulles Taxi -
Are the fares around $30? or more? Which of the 3 can you recommend?
I will need to go to IAD at around 3pm on Thursday.

Yes Dulles taxi is a little cheaper from my experience going to Dulles. You do not have to take the Greenway but if you do, you pay the toll. And yea, around $24-$27 and that includes a small tip....and they take credit cards too.

I take City Cab to Dulles and Washington Flyer from Dulles. I've tried City Cabs from Dulles but it was painful to actually connect with the cab, so I just use Washington Flyer (even though I find City Cabs cars nicer). The total cost is about $30 (including Greedway and tip).

+1 for city cabs. I like the fact that the driver will call about 15 mins prior to arriving letting you know he is on the way, so I am never wondering if he'll actually show. Fares are around $30 including Greenway and tip.

End up taking washington flyer on the return, not a big fan, but it is just convenient.
