Does anyone keep their trash cans outside on the side of the house? According to the HOA, there needs to be some sort of enclosure. If anyone has this, can you post a pic?

A few months ago we placed our recycling toter on the side of the house behind a large tree. The HOA busted us by sending a letter – with a photo!! – describing our infraction. We acquiesced and brought the big tub back into the garage.

However, I continue to see houses throughout the Broadlands that are in violation of this policy. There's one house on Vestal's Gap that's got at least 3 toters behind a tree much like we had done. There is no enclosure per se. Other houses are similarly in violation, and you can see many of them if you simply take a walk.

I'm not sure why we were nailed for this while others haven't been.

I know that you can have an enclosure according to the hoa rules...but haven't seen anyone with one yet.

goofus, odds are it was a neighbor turning you in. That is by far the #1 way the HOA finds out about violations.

That's interesting. A few years ago, we purchased a lattice type enclosure for our outdoor cans. During one of the many warm weather storms, the wind destroyed it, and onto the curb it went. While we were trying to figure out another solution, we received a letter from the HOA.

They also nailed Demott/Welby Ter a few months ago. Most people in our area have brought the cans inside after receiving the photos. I received one too.

We had a permanent trash enclosure installed a few years ago ... wooden posts put down in concrete, etc. Very sturdy. A handyman built it for us, and I think the whole project was a few hundred. We got it approved through the HOA ahead of time, of course! "Stick in the ground" type enclosures are not allowed because they are too flimsy. I'll take a picture soon and post it.

This looks nice. I've seen several houses in our community with something similar.
