Hello all- just curious about other BWHS kids' opinions on the school lunches- what is your kid's opinion? too small? tasteless? nasty? fatty? gross? like them just fine?

my son HATES them, and he's NOT a picky eater. Is it just him, or do other kids hate the lunches too?

My son has no complaints, but if he did, I'd just pack a lunch for him....

I enjoy making his lunch every day- but I do hate the fact that it's because most days the school doesn't provide a lunch that he can stomach. He can only eat so many salads, and that's only when the lettuc is fresh. He's not a picky eater at ALL, but he doesn't like crappy tasting food. it's our fault- we never should have let him taste the difference between fresh fruits and veggies over canned, and local freshly butchered meats over safeway pink slime "beef", and chicken breasts over chicken nuggets ... lol  he was soooo much cheaper before he developed a palate!

don't get me wrong- he'll eat junk food like any teenager, but mushy pasta, fatty chicken chunks, and tasteless mystery meat aren't his bag.

I have my own opinion with the public school lunches...they try to promote healthy food, but offer ice cream, chips, crackers; along with other snack foods. *smh*

My daughter stated that there is not enough time to eat if she buys, so packing is more of a need.

My stepson left school everyday to eat at McDonalds and apparently no one at the school cared that students were just walking out whenever they felt like it.

Where is the McDonalds? I'm not that familiar with the Brambleton area but don't know of any fast food places within walking distance that one could get to and back in time.

I can only assume the one on the Giant plaza. They can go anywhere they want apparently. I have no idea. That is what he told me. I couldn't care less if it was down the street or the next town over. All I cared about was he was not in school and no one at the school seemed to care.

As an employee at the high school, if they get caught leaving campus, they will receive Saturday detention. That being said, there are a lot of doors in the school and kids do tend to try to sneak out. Don't let your kids tell you they are allowed to leave for lunch, they are not.

Must be something unenforced. Kids regularly and frequently leave the school for lunch. (I've had/have 3 kids there). Haven't heard of any detention handed out.

healthy food does no one any good if it's in the trash. healthy is just one part of an equation, it has to taste, smell and look good. the pasta can't be overcooked mush or crunchy overly al dente. the meat sauce can't smell like vomit without a real tomato in sight. it's unrealistic and too expensive to feed them organic, local fruits and veggies, but a kid who eats those at home won't like the lower quality produce- that's MY kid's problem. besides if I'm feeding my kid healthy food at home, I'm not stressed out if he eats ice creams or cookies at school. a little junk won't kill him.

if we parents do our jobs at home, kids eating school lunches are not a threat, and if the kid doesn't like the school lunches, we'll save a lot of money making them lucnhes from homr.
    win WIN.

My son complains a lot about the bad tasting food at BWHS. Apparently the odds of getting gristle or something gross in the chicken nuggets is at least 1 in 4; he says it's like Russian Roulette. I try to find the time to keep sandwich stuff stocked at home, but I think more often than not he's still eating the BWHS food. I believe it has changed for the worse since the beginning of last year; he used to say it was pretty good after the ERMS food.
