Got the notification today. Monthly meetings from this month will be held at FSR offices in Fairfax. Reason given was, they could not secure Nature Center for the meetings. I guess, Broadlands Community Center, which is free to use for SWHOA, is not good enough.

Hardly any resident would go all the way to Fairfax to attend the meetings, which I suspect is the real motivation in relocating the meetings so far away.

Can anyone think of another HOA which conducts the meetings 20 miles away from community?

I did not see the notice yet but what you are saying is confusing. Is the meeting moved to Fairfax just for THIS month, or starting in February, ALL meetings going forward are moved to Fairfax? That is a big difference.

And it was well established that the SWHOA would not be meeting at the Nature Center any more....but that the SWHOA was free to schedule meetings at the Community Center (schedule permitting). How do you know the Community Center is "not good enough"?

Since you have filed suit against the Board - my advice would be to refrain from the innuendo and possible sarcasm.... not going to get you much support or new fans (not a sermon.... just a thought).

All meetings for 2013 are moved to Fairfax.

The county libraries all have meeting rooms that can be reserved, and if the group is non-profit, the room is free. I'm not sure what's wrong with using the Community Center, but there are closer alternatives than Fairfax.

I have observed that more residents were attending the meetings recently. The general interest in SWHOA meetings is increasing.

I would also like to have been told - in the letter - what the additional items are that cost $28 per month, over and above the phone/tv/internet.

Cost break down is in the mailing.
Some residents openly asked about the break down here, and HOA responded. GOOD!

Or another way to look at it... can't you get your reservations in place (for meetings you KNOW you will have) in before everyone books their private parties?

I find it hard to believe it's difficult to book it out during the week so many months in advance. But if you didn't think ahead... I could see the problem.

This movement of the meetings to Fairfax is just wrong....what a great way to make sure no one ever attends....it is a community HOA that does not meet in their community? lol

I am guessing when the SWHOA lawsuit against the BHOA/VM is settled, they can have the Nature Center back.

Nature Center availability aside... I am sure there are plenty of other options within the Community or closer than Fairfax county.

But I am guessing at a cost.

I have attended 1 meeting in my lifetime so honestly, I truly don't care. Yes, it would be better if the meetings were held in the community or at least close by. But if it saves $$$ (with the seemingly never ending lawsuit), then so be it.

There are meeting rooms available at no cost to non-profit organizations (I'm sure an HOA would qualify) at all county libraries. There are three fairly close libraries that have rooms of an appropriate size (Ashburn, Cascades, Rust).

Good reserach. Let the Board know in case they are not aware of this option.

The community I lived in previously (in Ashburn) would hold their meetings at the library on Hay Rd.

Im sure that they will pass up the library because like a neighbor said, they are paranoid that someone will overhear the meeting and divulge the details to OB and not only that, they trust the management's offices because its more secure and best of all its free to them. But i think there is more to it than that meets the eye. They want to make it difficult for the opposition to come to the meetings is what some of us believe.

Considering that only a few attended when it was minutes away, do you really think moving it farther makes a big difference? those who want to attend, still will.

And not for nothing, I bet the Board members would rather have it here too.
