For those of us who have OpenBand, go to their website and check out their latest SmartDial package. They have several packaged features for $14.99/month that includes all your in-state long distance, out-of-state long distance and PR and Canada. I called today and switched from my antiquated package I was paying $19.99 for (no caller id or call waiting). Turns out this has been available for a couple months now. So, I called and made the switch and requested a bill credit for the two months I was subscribing to the inferior service (total of $10). Hopefully, this information is useful for those who use the phone and subscribe to the optional packages.

Thanks for the news. I can't see a difference from my current $24.99 SmartDial package and this $14.99 package, except for the price, so this will help offset the increase in TV monthly service fees that OpenBand came out with last year.

It really would be nice if OpenBand consistently communicated changes in their offerings, as opposed to someone stumbling onto them. It would also be nice if the SWHOA found a way to notify its members of OpenBand's changes, if OpenBand hadn't, especially when there is a cost savings or quality increase that the SWHOA members can benefit from. SWHOA is missing out on opportunities to get the most out of what we currently have (it doesn't matter if you love it or hate it, it is what we have), while they continue down their current path.

I hardly ever use my home phone, other than conference calls and to receive incoming calls... something like that Smart Dial package is a waste since I do not care about caller ID. This could be good for someone who uses their phone more often.

OpenBand informed me that they announced Smart Dial Plus this on the November 2014 billing statement. I checked and saw that OpenBand added a few sentences to the statement, which really didn't stand out, which said "Do you have an outdated phone service bundle? Get more for less! Subscribe to Smart Dial Plus for just $14.99/month." It would have been nice for OpenBand to notify or switch those with the outdated bundle rather than have them continue to pay more for less. Great customer service slogan!

I didn't know about this either. I just called and it saves us $10/month. These people are ridiculous.

With increased cell phone usage, and with advancements in VOIP technologies (ooma, vonage), I dont even see a need to have a traditional landline with them or anybody else to pay the kind of monthly fees and long distance/international calling rates that are being charged these days. Oh wait, I forgot... I dont have a choice, do I? :deadhorse:

The ONLY reason I can think of having a land line is for a home alarm, but then that starts the cellular option discussion in which the hard line can't be cut. Of course, we then fall back to the crux of the issue which you summed up so nicely!
