I am very concerned about a situation I've encountered for the past couple days in a row... While I was advancing my car towards the stop sign at the intersection of Marsh Creek and Vestals Gap, a white Chevy SUV with a young girl with blonde hair zoomed by without stopping at the stop sign on Vestals...I mean going at least 45 mph! The first encounter was a little before 6 pm on either July 26th or 27th. I honked my horn and she was startled, but waved (without ever slowing down). Just this morning (July 29) at around 8:50 am, the same exact thing happened. I see this white SUV zooming towards the stop sign and she just raced right on through! The same girl! Again, I honked and this time she looked over at me at smiled! Seriously, she smiled as if mocking me! I don't think she will be smiling when she goes to jail for killing a pedestrian because that is exactly what is going to happen if this continues. I tried to get her license plate number, but she was going so fast that I couldn't even catch up! BTW, if it helps in figuring out who this person is, she turned left (both times) onto Claiborne Pkwy. If this is your child, please have a serious talk with her before someone gets killed.

We live close to this intersection and see this kind of stuff all the time. I'll keep an eye out for this particular vehicle.

This AM saw a young high school or college girl driving a Silver Toyota SUV (Looks like a RAV4?) DRIVE right through the *RED* light making a right turn onto Claiborne Parkway from Waxpool Road ...NEVER stopped at all...and she drove at a high speed rate through the turn. I have her license plate number and will give it to the cops as I am tired of people (young or old) RUNNING red lights or stop signs around here. This is NOT the wild, wild west where outlaws thumb their noses at the traffic laws. STOP means STOP. Period.

Parents- its your job to educate your kids! Do that before an accident happens and the cops and/or your kids call you to let you know that they smashed into someone. It would save you a lot of grief later on.

I wonder if citizens taking videos will be good evidence for the police officers to ticket them if they can observe in the video of the person speeding through stop signs/stop lights?

Its a matter of time before someone is hit or killed. Time to act BEFORE it happens.

Kids old enough to drive make their own decisions about whether or not they will use a tool that we gave them, so please don't make this particular issue about parents.

I have an teen driver. Just because we TELL them what to do, they KNOW what to do, and they LEARNED what to do when we taught them to drive- that does NOT mean they will do the right thing when we aren't around. Teenagers are by and large rather stupid about half the time. They make poor, impulsive decisions that are the exact OPPOSITE of what they are taught. WE did as teens, and so will they.

The responsibility is on the DRIVER and no one else. If you ever see a rather handsome mixed kid in a white Kia Optima breaking any traffic laws- PLEASE let me know. He's mine and I can assure you he DOES know better and he WILL f- up. Like 99% of the rest of them. (i SAID 99%. IF YOUR KID IS PERFECT THEN CLEARLY I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT YOURS. ;) )

I reiterate....Parents SHOULD talk to their kids about driving their cars....Remember, in the eyes of the law, they are still MINORS and are under the responsibility of their parents. Can't stress that enough. This is NOT about parents- This is NOT about YOU...this is about kids (and older adults) who FLOUT the law because they feel they can! Look at it this way--as long as the kid is NOT with the parent, they are gonna do what they WANT to do whether the parents know about it or not. May I direct you to the VERY first posting of this thread? If the cops nab this and the other kid that I posted about...Well guess who is gonna pay for the lawyer in court? Parents (why? Because the parent has the money, not the kid! Go figure.) 'Nuf said.

FWIW, do you think Im gonna LET you or another parent know about their kid or another breaking any laws? The cops would be the FIRST to know (Same as others above have said)....Its time that kids (and adult drivers) accept the consequences of their actions. Too many parents get defensive of their kids by giving a bunch of marlarkey along the lines of "Oh no, my kid never would do that...Oh no, I know my kid better than that." Well guess what...these parents aren't sitting in the car with their kids watching them drive. You cannot be with them 24 hours a day in the car.

I do know this: If my kid(s) get busted by the cops for driving infractions/accidents or what not, Im taking their car keys away and they they use a bike/wall/skateboard until they learn that a car is not a toy and speeding/reckless driving, etc isn't trivial.

I have said it before and I will say it again....Parents need to be more involved because kids sometimes aren't mature enough to make WISE decisions when they are given an automobile. I see some of them do stupid things when they are AWAY from their parents.

    Meanwhile, have a nice day-

I'm involved and I still have a sometimes stupid kid. 'Nuff said. anyone with a teenager knows THAT to be true.

and PS-please DO let the cops know! I have no problem with that. My friends know that we MEAN it when we say tell us if you catch him in the act- yes many parents around here don't have that policy. ok NOW 'nuff said.

Not all parents are involved...I would venture to say that MOST are. But there are SOME that don't give a hoot or are SO defensive of their kids that they are blind themselves. 'Nuff said.
