At our Halloween street party last night several of my neighbors were having a conversation that one of our board members had been arrested and convicted of filing false police reports!! I hate rumors and looked all over these boards and have found nothing in relations to it. Does this have anything to do with the Openband lawsuits or whatever is going on with the resident trying to get on the board? Did the member resign? If this post isn't allowed I'll remove it! o_O

It is not a member of the Broadlands HOA Board. It is a member of the SW HOA Board. They were charged with filing a false police report. Found guilty in District Court. Appealed to Circuit court with a jury trial. Found guilty. Sentencing is today. It is a Class 1 misdemeanor. It is all on the public record. It had nothing to do with Openband.

    Update today:
Judge granted defendant's motion to set aside the jury verdict and dismissed the case.

Use this link: http://ewsocis1.courts.state.va.us/CJISWeb/circuit.jsp and select Loudoun County. The rest is pretty simple (e.g., just enter the persons last name).

Maybe he meant that he's not surprised that the state makes that info publicly available?

Doesn't surprise me that a certain member of the SW board made a false police report.

I just cannot help but wonder if this person got off because of political connections? Loudoun county's political machine has a lot of corruption in play....Everyone is connected to one another and helps one another if they get into a jam. That is what a lot of folks are surprised about .... that case got dismissed RIGHT at the very end (sentencing time).....Just totally smacks of political favor to me. Why else would they go through all the trouble to have the jury of peers to convict her only to throw it out at LAST minute. Seems that the judges are allowing the cases to go on for SHOW then dismiss what the Jury has to say. I mean it sounds like the jury portion of the cases now are ineffectual-then why have them in the first place if the Judges don't agree with the jury? Why don't then we all abolish juries if the Judges are not going to allow them to decide? Lets be done with the jury and let the judge be the decider in the end....Not surprised either about the outcome. But I'm surprised that they decided to waste the jury's time by throwing it all out. SMH. The Judge should have decided from the very first get-go. Sarcasm off/

At least we can congratulate Miller now, that's a win after so many losses that we've heard about on here even if its not related to SWHOA/Openband. Shame it went to all the way to sentencing before being thrown out - that's a lot of money wasted I'm sure.

A lot of taxpayer money wasted because someone falsified a claim. I wonder if the defendant was ordered to pay the court costs...

Wait a minute.....You say "Miller"??? According to the General District Court System's PUBLIC records -- Defendant's attorney is indeed Miller... Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest since the same lawyer also worked on legal matters for SWHOA? SMDH. What a story...Maybe Steven Spielberg would be interested in making a movie out of this whole drama beginning when it first started! I'm sure he'll win an Oscar!

Who knows???? Someone has to pay the attorney though and I wonder if it was paid through a "favor" or actually paid with $$$. Inquiring minds will never find out ever.

Not so fast. Miller handled the first case.....and lost. A good attorney handled the second one.....and won.

Let's just say that if isn't the first time this person claimed to be a victim. She often complained on this forum of being the target of crimes. that were pretty hard to believe.

If Miller lost and a new lawyer prevailed.....does that mean if we had gotten different lawyers on SWHOA legal cases, we could have prevailed? If so, we could have gotten our $$$$ back from OB since OB would have had to pay us back for our legal expenses. I knew it all along that the SWHOA lawyers were pretty much ineffectual!!!
