wow, how i wish i could go- well, that's not exactly true- if I really wanted to I would make the time- I just have more important things to do than invest more time the freak show of the R and D candidates this year's election.

but- would LOVE to see what a rally actually feels like vs. what the media portrays! Has anyone been to a major political rally and care to share the experience?

I am mostly annoyed that school activities are being cancelled because of the event. And all the messages from the school system mention nothing about it being a rally.

At face value this just seems wrong. Political rallies should not be happening at schools. But in this case, if this is a rally, is it paid for? A rally should be held at a commercial/private facility one would think? And yes, this is even worse if regular activities have to be cancelled. Where are you seeing messages? Who can we contact to complain most effectively, the school board or our BoS?

I would disagree. It is a rare opportunity to have a presidential candidate have a rally so close to home. I think it is worth the inconvenience.

Despite my personal feelings about the candidate (which are not positive), general election candidates are usually allowed usage of public facilities, assuming they pay the direct costs incurred by the event. One could also argue that having political leaders come to the school presents an educational opportunity for area students. Remember that these people are supposed to be having an elevated dialogue about the future of our nation and are supposed to be national leaders representing different visions. Whether we agree that this is happening or not, it is a relatively common practice to hold these at schools. I would guess that the related cancellations are a mix of secret service requests, along with the school system looking at the sometimes violent history of recent events and not wanting students to get caught in the middle.

As to redon1's question about rally experiences - what the media doesn't show you are the lines to get in, the protesters outside, and standing for 3 hours waiting for a candidate to speak. They are exciting if you are a supporter. At this point in the campaign they are so big and staged that they aren't terribly informative, unlike some of the small, face-to-face opportunities to meet candidates further out in some of the early states.

regardless of your politics or feelings for a candidate- i DO think it's a great opportunity to see, hear, and feel a rally for someone running for president, i wish i could go and wish my son would get outta bed and show some interest in it too! it's as important to hear ppl you disagree with as those you DO... i'm still waiting for a third party candidate to appear, lol

so why no major coverage of this candidate- is it all simply about money to buy air time? would be so nice if all candidates who meet a certain level of support got EQUAL coverage by major news networks- i feel like the media has elected trump by largely ignoring other republican candidates except when they were WITH Trump. not speaking in absolutes here.

i'm no politico and i spend more time on local elections than natl, i don't belong to any party, so i feel like i'm like the majority of americans. i have no idea who this libertarian candidate is, what they stand for- where's the coverage?

We went so we could say we did. There was lots of energy, a few notable characters and plenty of folks we knew. There were some folks protesting but everyone was in good spirits. Folks had showed up hours beforehand to actually get into the building so we hung out in the crowds outside for a bit until heading back. Overall it was a cool thing to walk through and see and we'll have some pics and videos to show the kids.

so apparently a ticket does not entitle you to cut in front of everyone else? Who knew... but gotta love the 2nd grader type of response to just sit down and refuse to move.

Joy Maloney should be forced to setp down from her position. She is an embarrassment to the county and her role.

It was appropriate because it perfectly mirrored the childish behavior of the GOP nominee - who knew?!

Politics aside we should expect better behavior from our elected officials.

For the record, Joy was wearing an anti-Trump sticker. Just saying...

I didn't realize this was actually a question in anyone's mind. She was physically trying to prevent people from entering, There is an interview a reporter did with her while she was standing in line where you're able to see her trying to work herself up to do something disruptive but she isn't sure exactly what at that point.

Was the ice cream truck guy there selling frosty delicious refreshments to the hearty souls who turned out for the event? That guy is everywhere there is a crowd.

Seriously though I loved the part about where he kicked out the baby. It was done the way Donald does everything, honest, but not PC. We would have all been thinking the same thing had we been in noise range of it. Too bad for that mom- I'm sure she's embarrassed though. Hopefully she isn't too bitter about it.

The first time Trump commented about the baby was his cue to take the kid out of there - I thought that was pretty obvious. Just goes to show his supporters can't see the forest for the trees...

So, one lady with a crying baby speaks for millions of Trump supporters? I see you're running with the Lib talking point about Trump's uneducated supporters. Does Joy speak for millions of Hilliary supporters too?
