As many of you may have seen, there are numerous roofing companies working within Broadlands repairing hail damaged roofs. Be cautious as there are "storm chasers" who come from out of state that may not be bonded and licensed to work in VA. Read any forms thoroughly when they ask you to sign.

If you have not had your roof checked, I highly recommend it. Our roof was original and according to our State Farm agent, our roof had damage from several hail storms. They are replacing our entire roof, and some down spouts.

The June hail storm was declared a catastrophic event for the Northern VA area. Insurance companies are assisting with repair costs. Homes from Woodbridge to Ashburn are being repaired, so it is worth having your roof checked, especially if your roof is original from 1998.

If you had a roofing company repair or replace your roof and the company is legit, please post your recommendation.

    Thanks!

Mark Lannes, who owns Neighborhood Broker, LLC has been working with 10+ houses in our neighborhood and has done a great job. He checked our roof and less than 2 weeks later we had a new roof and it was covered by insurance.

Did you have you reinsurance company look at it and say it was hail damage or did one of the roofing companies say that and then you submitted it to the insurance. I would love to get a new roof paid for by insurance.

Has anyone had any experience with NBG Restoration? They noted that their services should be covered by homeowner's insurance. Does anyone know how this might affect future premiums?

Mark, from the roofing company looked at it first. (we called him, he didn't come around knocking on doors). A couple of days later he met the insurance adjuster here and the adjuster went up on the roof. The insurance adjuster agreed with Mark's report and gave us a check for the new roof that day.

My thoughts exactly. With a high deductible and increased premiums afterwards, would it really pay off to use insurance? And then there are scams.. https://www.angieslist.com/articles/watch-out-these-5-roofing-scams.htm

Since the June storm was designated a catastrophic event, individual claims won't cause insurance to go up. Everyone's insurance will go up to some degree.

Our insurance company came out and identified more than the roofer that checked the roof.

Yes, there are storm chasers in the area and you need to be very careful. BUT there is also an opportunity to have legitimate roof repairs or replacement completed for the cost of your deductible. Our deductible is high but only a fraction of the $17k for all the repairs (roof and some interior repairs as a result of roof damage.)

Can you tell me who designated the June storm a catastrophic event? I can't find it anywhere from NOAA to FEMA or even the state of Virginia. I'd like to have this fact verified in case we have problems with our insurance company. Thanks!

I can't tell you the official sites ( I imagine insurance companies don't disclose this information), but you can contact your insurance company and ask about it. They know the dates. I stopped by my office (All State in Broadlands) and mentioned it. They were well aware.

Can anyone recommend a roofing company? We need to replace our roof and I want to get some estimates.

The whole process is amazing in that we have had a few companies come out and inspect the roof and they all agree that there is damage. When I asked for an estimate they all say we will due it for the insurance proceeds and that you will just be out your deductible. I find it amazing that if insurance was not involved in the process I would probably have very different price quotes from the roofing contractors to replace my rood and gutters. It's an amazing process.

Probably a good idea to know what your insurance covers first. Some policies will cover the depreciated value of the roof only, depending on its age. Read your policy or talk to your insurer but do not take for granted that all roofers are experienced working with insurance companies and know what will be covered.

I'm thinking about giving Mark a call. Do you have any more info on the company or did you compare them to any others? Thanks.

I would recommend his company. He's done over a dozen roofs in my neighborhood and I haven't heard any complaints.

In looking for a roof contractor, I had the displeasure of meeting with Larry Doyle. He was inconsistent, contradicted himself, wouldn't provide a written quote and couldn't maintain his composure in a 10 minute conversation. He was too busy railing about "being the only person that ever grew up in Ashburn" and how much "doesn't need your business" to actually understand the details of the job.

We decided on Jeremy Norris from NBG Restoration - Lives in the area, not a storm chaser. He even met with our insurance adjuster for the damage surveyand pointed out damage teh adjuster missed .... 703-435-4555, nbgrestoration.com
