I can tell you the Glebe View between Truro Parish and Broadlands blvd is a real problem. You can roll down the hill and easily exceed 25mph. People regularly drive 40mph+. How about stop signs along these roads that have speeding issues.? I think a stop sign at Glebe & Vestals would do wonders in slowing people down. Shouldn't the HOA Board or management company advocate for the association with the county in implementing speed reduction measures into our neighborhood? It's only a matter of time before someone is hurt on our neighborhood streets.

Just for perspective. If you use this forum as an example, WAY MANY more posts complaining about dog crap than speeders. Just a thought as to why HOA may spend money there.

Speed bumps are a safety issue though. IMO that should take priority over baggies to pick up dog crap. The responsible thing as a pet owner is to use your own bags to pick up after your pet. Why should your neighbors pay for your baggies?

VDOT doesn't like speed restrictions. Our HOA worked hard, with the Developer, to keep the speed limits lower on Claiborne/Waxpool/Truro Parish for several years. Then, with no notice or concern about what residents thing, they went out and unilaterally raised them.
VDOT also does not like to put stop signs at bottoms of hills. Too dangerous, they say. We got this answer when looking into a stop sign on Ridgeway at Stone Hollow.

I also do not believe that stop signs at every corner is the way to manage traffic.

So would you put speed humps on every road in Broadlands? Living in SW patio homes, my HOA fees are high enough and I would prefer to not have them go significantly higher IF, IF it is a community wide payment for humps and the subsequent plowing surcharge. If costs are to just those homeowners on specific streets that get humps, then so be it.
Good luck getting the required percentage of homeowners to buy in.

And FWIW, the people speeding are your neighbors. I have asked several, politely to slow down and a couple not so politely. In each case the speeding stopped. I have also inquired in the past to the HOA about putting up speed limit signs and making that limit 20 MPH due to the tight roads we have.

I don't know the speeding situation for every road in Broadlands. Just the street I live on and the others folks are mentioning here. I'm not trying to put speed bumps on every road - just the ones where it seems warranted.

Again, it's a little too early to tell what, if any, cost increases there would be to HOA dues - let alone who would be impacted.

Of course the people who are speeding are my neighbors. But it's also the people who cut through to the back neighborhoods, those who are picking up carpool, contractors working on homes, folks heading to the pool, teens driving over to hang with their friends, nannies/babysitters driving over to watch kids, etc. etc. What's your point? The speed bumps will slow down everyone.

You said in a previous post that you "rarely" see speeders on Milford - but you seem to tell plenty of people to slow down, politely or otherwise. Which is it? Rarely see anyone speeding, or see it often enough to start policing it yourself? It would be nice to stand outside my house and yell at all of the speeders who fly by, but unfortunately I think a more permanent solution is needed here.

I walk my dog's every night around highview trail, stone hollow, and Ridgeway as folks are on the way home from work. You would think it was an Indy car race with how people run the stop signs and cut the corners. Tonight I witnessed a person turning wide into their driveway and someone slammed on the horn to cut inside the wide turn. People are so impatient around here.

On the flip side no way do I believe speed humps would help. It would just become a race between them and make the intersections worse.

Why not some type of photographic equipment or some type of radar that looks for patterns that can then be sent to sheriff for speed enforcement stings? Ever see what happens between speed bumps? People speed up even more.

I never said "plenty", I said several. And honestly, I couldn't tell you how fast they were going, just like you can't either. I just know it was too fast for our narrow roads. So maybe it is a perception of speeding than POSSIBLY actual speeding??? Also, having lived on Larchmont since 2005 ("several" in 12 years ;)), speeding has not been a real issue in our neighborhood other than Village and your post was the first regarding Milford.

How many speeders make "plenty"? How many make "several"? I'm not going to argue the symantics of two subjective words with you. I see several and plenty as both being too many speeders. My point was it seemed that you were saying that you didn't see speeding as being an issue in your first post, then your subsequent post(s) you seem to imply it is an issue - so much so you started saying things to people.

I would love to take what my perception of speeding is out of the equation. Which is what speed bumps would do.

Bottom line is, I am hoping you won't need to worry about this either way. So no sense is arguing with you because it shouldn't impact you at all. I don't care if speed bumps are on Larchmont or not. I'm really just concerned with Milford - because that's where my small children live/play.

Increased law enforcement is fine, but NO to the speed bumps. I absolutely hate them and they are not good for your automobile even if you do not speed.

As someone who lives on Village, and is a dad to two young boys who are constantly outside, I agree that speeding is an issue. But PLEASE, anything but speed bumps. Terrible wear and tear on vehicles, especially classics. Many options to explore, but I'm diametrically opposed to speed bumps. My two cents.

I am another homeowner who lives off Village (nobody lives on Village). My question is what is the speed limit on Village drive? There are no speed limit signs and I had always assumed it was 25 mph. The VDOT website says 25 mph for business and residential areas ( http://www.virginiadot.org/info/faq-speedlimits.asp ). But that is sometimes interpreted as streets that have houses directly on the street. Since there are no houses directly on Village, the speed limit may actually be 35 (or even 45!).

As of yesterday there is a new speed limit sign on Village drive right by the competitive pool. 25 mph.

    Now we know.

Sorry, I'm late to this thread this year. It's about to get a whole lot "better" with the college kids coming back in a few weeks.

It's been a while; I might have to dust off the radar gun and horrify the next generation (as well as their oblivious parents - put your starbucks and phone down while speeding through the neighborhood please).

Pretty sad that, even as a parent, you choose your car's suspension over the safety of children.

Some people believe in responsibility instead of trying to force behavior externally

If that were working we wouldn't need this thread.

The solution to a problem individual isn't take away from everyone - you can also pursue addressing the problem individuals or changing expectations.

Principals tend to be more entrenched.. because ignoring them tends to snowball into other things.
