I definitely don't blame the Broadlands HOA. It is just amazing with all of the tech in this area that we have to pray that Fios connects to our house.

As the Broad Run rep to the Communications Commission, I have put in a request to the Verizon Rep to find out why your street does not have Verizon service. If you want to email me directly at broadruncableovs@yahoo.com I can tell you what I find out. As mentioned previously, you (and your neighbors) can put in a LEX request on the county website asking for service so that Verizon can see the level of interest in the neighborhood.

    Good morning :)
I would like to make sure I understand: fios internet is going to be included when one lives in Broadlands and will be billed monthly through the HOA,
meaning, the current payment of 89$ will go up 70$ to total just under 160$/months...?

Not exactly. The Broadlands HOA fee of $89 (for townhomes), is not affected. Southern Walk homeowners currently have a second SW HOA payment of $25 plus an $80 bill directly from OpenBand for Internet (the bill is higher if the homeowner gets video and voice from OpenBand). When this goes into effect, the SW HOA bill will be an estimated $94 ($25 + 70), which will include payment for Fios Internet. Fios video and voice would be billed separately by Verizon, if applicable.

Thanks, I guess this does not concern me, although I like their deal :) the HOA totalling just a little over what I pay now and including wifi, that’s nice!

SW residents still have to pay the Broadlands HOA fee, too. $183 ($89 + $94) for SW residents - not as nice as you thought.

Oh my, no, it is not!
Particularly if one does not want internet, or fios for the matter, or if they can get a better deal on their own with or without fios... :/
Looking around, unlimitted internet is about 70$/month (for an ok speed).
Can’t we make verizon and comcast fight over it? Maybe a little competition would drive the prices down....

I had seen an awesome deal through att where you got internet/cable/cell, but the law forbids it in the tri-state area!
Maybe we should start by fixing that...

Does every homeowner have to submit the request or can I submit one for the street? Thanks!

Does anyone have a side-by-side comparison of what we will get for Internet service under Verizon vs. Openband? For example, the going rate is $80 (OB) vs $70 (Fios), and the bandwidth is 100Mbps under Openband vs (hopefully) 1 Gbps for Fios, although that may be rate limited depending on our SW contractual agreement?

Could you give more information pl.

What is the monthly charge for Internet only service?

Do you have channel listing of the four TV package options?

What would be the total cost excluding taxes for the Preferred HD service for three room DVR service?

Are you expecting prices and services to change in 2019?

I actually thought that we'd see significant savings by getting Verizon in here. Stupid me.

Will OpenBand service stay? They should lower their fees to keep current customers. Or upgrade their hardware. They already have fiber cable, so it should be just a matter of replacing few hardware devices to increase the speed.

RobertD - you are, I think making a mistake in your assumption of treating Openband like a "normal" telecommunications company. For many of us that have been down this road before (since 2005 for me)... it is pointless to spend time on these questions. Openband is a closed system...no new customers because they are linked to the communities where they were installed. They have ceased operations in Lansdowne and have no interest investing. Their fiber is for internet only and capped at 100 mb. Their video is over Coax. Many homeowners have been begging them for upgrades over the years... and they have done close to nothing. Some channels have been added... DVR options I think were upgraded once. They lost their County Franchise agreement a few years ago too. Van Metre and MC Dean will close Openband once we get up and running on Verizon (my opinion) just like what happened in Lansdowne.

Openband will simply roll over and close up shop. They have no other customers than what is in SouthernWalk now. They don't have the scale to operate - and they have a legacy infrastructure that requires refreshes to stay competitive, even if just operational. This is a company that was setup JUST to operate these closed community projects. Their market is gone.. as well as their revenue model. They're done.

    Interesting.
Looking at all the new Verizon digging, that must be costing a lot of money.
In my "frugal" (and "out of date") thinking, I would look for a way to buy the the usable infrastructure (like cabling) and then upgrade it. But maybe not worth it.
So instead, there will be a lot of unused cable left in the ground. What a waste. I guess there is no other way.

I will just wait and see what happens. I'm happy with the 100 Mbps data right now. So if I can get it for $40/month (half price of OpenBand), I will be happy.
I don't really care about any TV. For me getting few channels from the air is enough (not speaking for my wife).

So far Verizon doesn't seem to have our addresses available online. And this engine shows strangely Xfinity: https://www.whistleout.com/

Just briefly on the infrastructure... the original Openband infrastructure is useless to Verizon because it is completely incompatible with Fios. The Coax cable could possibly be used by Comcast... but I am sure it would require a large retrofit of the other underlying relays etc. For a large portion of the community, faster internet will open up a lot of options, but as you say, is not needed by all. But remember too, having faster internet within the community is good value for all - think of the positive impact to resale values?

Yes, Video operations will cease June 1st according to the e-mail. Feb 1 all web hosting stops. Seems like some phone services stop too.
