The real issue with speeders is they don't care.
"You should, you must be, you don't" should not be part of an adult discussion. Opinions about community options should be weighed by everyone.
I do take note of the date of forum enrollment. The dates tend to show distinct differences in opinion.

Humps would be fine with me. Everyone seems to be qualifying for Daytona on Demott between Broadlands Blvd and Waxpool.

 

I’ve read T8erman’s post and have seen plenty of opinions like them. I’m sure emergency vehicles, etc. can handle 15 mph speed humps. I’m all about speed humps meant to slow speed to 10-15mph and don’t think the speed bumps are a good option. Apologies for saying speed bumps in earlier posts when I meant speed humps.

I especially like the bit about “children are much less likely to be struck by cars in neighborhoods where speed humps are installed.”. As a bonus there is even a section on how proper “speed cushion planning” can reduce the worries about car damage, emergency response time etc. I think with proper planning we can make our neighborhoods a lot safer while also not impacting the masses in a negative way.

There is also a line about speeding up between humps - and I guess I would rather folks slow down a little bit and have to think about following the speed limits than have no deterrents at all.

The average cost of a hump is probably about $2500 a pop. How many do we put in, how far apart, what roads, all of them?
I know the HOA can decide on HOA owned roads, but I a m not sure about VDOT controlled roads. Does VDOT even allow them? Betting the VDOT roads are the MAJOR issue with speeding.
It is simple to say "we want something" without weighing all the criteria / costs.

When I see those yellow folding 'child area warning signs', I take note. I slow down even more. Perhaps those would be effective and less costly.
I hate to say this, but younger people tend to drive faster. I get how exciting is to be a new driver.
If you see the same vehicles speeding on a regular basis, get their tag number and report them. When possible, stop them and talk with them about street safety.

 

Yes. Stopping a complete stranger to lecture them about street safety sounds like a great plan. What could possibly go wrong?
