Townhouse Mailbox Kiosk Question

    Have you had to replace your mailbox lock? Where did you buy it and did you install it yourself? I'm told USPS is not responsible for maintaining the locks or keys.

    We paid the USPS $30 - $35 last year to replace our lock. They also gave us 3 keys for the new lock.

    Thank you. I found a lot of conflicting information on their website and they made it sound like it was the responsibility of the resident.

    Ours was damaged earlier this month, and went to USPS, paid $30 and they will provide 3 new keys. It may take a week.

    Same here. They said they would call me in a week to pick up the keys.

    Update: USPS changed the lock Saturday and delivered the keys just 2 days after submitting the request.

    was it the USPS in Broadlands that you contacted to help you replace your keys?

    I went to the Dulles Distribution Center on Prentiss - the Customer service section.

    So, I went to Home Depot and they copied my mailbox key.

    Only USPS can replace the locks.

    And they were able to provide a replacement key?

    Yes, installed a new lock and gave me two keys.

    Thank you for this information. I will contact them today! I'm sure my mailman isn't too happy with how full my box must be. ;)
