This AM, saw a few Briar Woods HS students speed at very high rates on Claiborne parkway and Ryan Road ( going probably 70-80 mph) and undercover car was trailing him and weaving in and out of traffic when cop finally had enough and pulled him over. I witnessed him blow right through a stoplight on red making a right turn on Ryan road.

This is a daily occurrence on these roads and Croson Road/Belmont Road. Teens getting busted are going to see their parents’ car insurance premiums increase significantly especially if the kid speeds 15+ over the limit. Hope parents are happy to be paying more since they are rich enough to afford it.

may this be a teaching/learning time between kid and parents unless kid has his own policy separate from parents.

Well said, additionally, teens speeding in the neighborhoods and avoiding traffic signs is a problem I've personally witnessed many a times. Parents need to lead by example.

Generally, most kids learn their driving habits FROM their parents.

Do you have evidence to support your assertions?

    Really?!
Who do children drive around with almost exclusively while growing up? Who are almost ALWAYS the primary trainers when they do start driving?
Just in case you didn't know, kids do learn some stuff from the parents, good and bad!

if you don’t or can’t back up your assertions with evidence, it’s hard to take your assertions at face value. Your generalization is certainly laughable.

    Ever hear of

Remember, Loudoun county is one of the richest counties in the nation and has the highest average income in the nation as well. https://datausa.io/profile/geo/loudoun-county-va

    T
here are plenty of parents that will cough up the extra premiums and protect their kids in the process. Just sayin’

I know plenty of people in the industry that I work in that make far more than the average income listed. They would gladly pay up for their kids to keep them happy since they can easily afford it.

You need to mind your own damn business. My kid messes up, I pay the price whatever the hell it is. You have absolutely nothing to do with it. Quit gatekeeping and acting like older folks are angelic drivers. I always come across pos Odysseys being driven well above the limit.

    Really?

I would venture to gather that quite a few parents would call the county police to report kids speeding and being reckless because kids GENERALLY have LESS experience driving than MOST of us parents. It wouldn’t surprise me if YOUR premiums would skyrocket if your kid(s) were caught and ticketed because insurance companies wouldn’t view their traffic violations kindly. Haven’t you read about that kid who hit another car head-on killing a mom in a large car near Briar Woods area not too long ago? A 4 yr old toddler was found in the van alive alone. That mother was my high school buddy’s friend and also My former colleague’s co-worker.

If your own family members were ever seriously injured or killed in a vehicle accident, I’m sure your opinion would change So FAST. Calling the police is the right thing to do whether it’s a kid or not, anyway. Many of us here in Broadlands are going to make it our business to keep the neighborhood safe for our families whether or not you like it or not. Besides, the police often recommend that people call in if they see vehicles being operated at any unsafe speed.

Don’t like people telling you this? Then move to Florida (Daytona) or to Indiana (Indianapolis) where there are major speedway arenas that your kid can race to his content without putting others at risk.

Lastly, my original post was to share WHAT I observed on the road on the way to my office. If you think I am trying to be a “gatekeeper” as you put it, you are sadly mistaken as I’m not the one pulling these kids over—it’s the cops that are and I’m glad they are starting to bust people speeding and weaving in and out on Claiborne drive near Ryan Road. It’s time for the police officers to teach reckless drivers that this driving behavior isn’t appropriate for this area.

Now, go bugger off while our neighborhood attempts to keep itself safe from speeders.

Welcome! Great first post...all friendly and neighbor like! I'm guessing by your post 32 days after the OP that it was your teen that was referenced or they got a ticket for a similar infraction? Just remember, it's not your job to pay the price. It's a common parental gesture, but teens need to be accountable for their actions.
