Assumption? :nono: You said it not me. You see these boards and hear the complaints. Sometimes it's good to see things with a fresh set of eyes.

I’m not asking the HOA to cite every single violation here...all I’m asking is that there be enforcement for trash bins being out for a week..and for yards that are overgrown to be mowed and gardens overwhelmed with weeds to be taken care of. That’s it. Why should they ‘let it go to hell’ because HOA isn’t enforcing the covenants? That isn’t fair for the rest of us that take the time to clean up our own homes. Or are ya saying every single derelict home has depressed people for SURE? If we didn’t have COVID and some people were depressed for a long time, would the HOA let them slide for while? Where does the HOA draw the line? Need letters from Doc to prove depression? What if someone is trying to sell their home and neighbor doesn’t want to clean up or refuses to allow next door neighbor to help clean up to make property look presentable?

We can’t continually clean up after others- they need to pull themselves up and clean up as many of us bought into a neighborhood that is beautiful and well kept. We aren’t asking for HOA to be hard nosed and cite every violation which would be too overbearing. But we would at minimum like to see mowed yards and trash bins put away the day after trash day but some just don’t want to do it. Hell, I’ve been cited a few times but ever since, I’ve put it away and painted the shutters and even power washed the side of my house.

Im talking about when Manassas long ago wasn’t that well kept. I never forgot what it looked like back then and never wanted to live there long ago so moved to Fairfax where the homes were well kept..home values went up lot as a result because people kept up the properties.

Speaking of newspapers, how can one stop getting the community newspapers? (Not the WashPo but the local paper)? I’ve never read them and I keep throwing them in the trash....I have never subscribed or asked them to deliver papers to the house. Does the HOA pay them to deliver to the house? I have no idea why or who is making them deliver to every house in our neighborhood but to me, it’s a huge waste as I just chuck it in the trash- I didn’t ask for it. Would like for it to stop but they won’t.

Agree here that I don’t want an overbearing HOA. We have a great HOA but some people need to maintain yards and trash bins put away...that’s all.

As noted in the monthly newsletter and on the website, the HOA continues to issue violation letters for trash cans and lawn maintenance during the pandemic since these constitute sanitary issues. Please review the newsletter or link below for further details.

Are trash bins permitted to be located against the side of the house but not hidden from sight? I thought the HOA requires the trash bins to be hidden from sight like behind a latticed screen? Im seeing some homes where the residents are just putting them on the side of the house but not hidden from view?

Because there is 'strict compliance' and 'reasonable' as well. You don't want people walking around with measuring sticks to check if someone's grass is 4 days overdue... or people crying about siding mold in February.

    Based on what?

Seems to me you confuse not getting the outcome you want with 'not enough inspectors'

They do it because it's free circulation aka eyeballs to their advertisers. Nothing to do with the HOA/you/whatever.

As a reminder, here is what you said, which is an ASSUMPTION:
"Stands to reason - the folks who think the HOA is overbearing and nasty must be the same ones getting violation notices, so your point is moot."

So in other words, its junk then...and unsolicited at that! So I guess there is no way many of us can get them to stop delivering it then? So its incumbent on us to pick it up and THROW it in the trash, plastic bag and all? What a waste of paper.

I wasn't differentiating - compliance means one thing. Siding mold in the winter or long grass in the off season - that's why inspections are staged throughout the seasons.

    A conversation with the inspector.

You 'reason' that it's 'sufficient' when neighbors 'call in' violations, if they do - therefore the problem will take care of itself. Well that's obviously not the case when you have folks on this board complaining.

KTDid and others: Serious question-- have you actually called the HOA Office or written them an email or letter with a specific complaint?

It's nice that the HOA sometimes receives complaints on the forums and takes action, but it is my personal opinion that more serious complaints should be phoned or written in. In more normal times, even visit a Board meeting now and then to ask questions or offer feedback. I guess I am old school.

I myself have a neighbor to neighbor issue that I contacted the HOA with back in November. Ball is in my court to request escalation, but if I do, I have every bit of confidence further action would be taken.

BTW, I am hearing we may not be totally far off of Phase 2 in Virginia so we could maybe be looking at increased stewardship from our neighbors in lawn cutting, garbage barrels, home/yard weeding, power washing as people feel (hopefully) more normal.

Yes, some folks like to lodge complaints on these forums. And it usually accomplishes nothing. A specific complaint needs to be sent to the Association.
If someone alleges that they have done so and have received no response or resolution to the issue, then that could be elevated to our GM or the Board.

If someone wants to provide me with the nature of the complaint, when and how it was communicated to the HOA and what, if any, responses they received, I will be happy to look int it.

Folks also need to understand there is a legal process we follow in handling complaints. And that process can unfortunately take a fair amount of time to go through.

I'll take yours! The delivery guy is lazy so they literally don't go down any side street, so my street doesn't get it delivered except for the two weeks before Christmas (and yes, the tip envelope is inside). I now wait until Saturday night and walk the neighborhood to take one that hasn't been picked up.

Aha- they discriminate against side street dwellers! You are free to take up my papers any time - Just don’t return them to me crumbled or not!
