Hi - Just wondering, since there was no garbage collection yesterday (Christmas Monday), is there garbage collection today? I left my cans by the curb, but the garbage hasn't been picked up yet.

No collection today. New Horizons will be performing their normal pickup Thursday morning.

Typically, garbage collection is performed on regularly scheduled days only. If a day falls on a holiday, wait until the next scheduled day to put out your trash.

That's not exactly right.....the only Holidays that they don't pick up is Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving day. All other holidays have trash pickup...i.e. Martin Luther King Day, President's Day. All you need to remember is the three holidays above...if the holiday falls on a regular trash day....no pickup until the next scheduled day. I saw on my regular walk today that a lot of people had their trash out to be picked up today - now these will stay out until Thursday......I'm sure.

This season it really doesn't work very well, considering we will have no pick up two weeks in a row on what is the most volume of trash we will have all year.

Anyone able to give me a quick refresher on the rules for the recycle bin? I put all my paper into a brown paper bag which they left on the curb last time. Also - can you throw junk mail in there even though its not all paper?

To make matters worse, we saw the trash truck making rounds in Overland Park at 6:18 am this morning so unless you put out the trash last night you missed the only pickup this week.

Since we're on the topic of garbage pick up - does anyone know if there's a set schedule to empty the doggie do bins? The one on our street is overflowing and yet people are still trying to put waste into it. :eww:

I seem to remember that the landscapers should be doing that as part of their contract, but that may have changed. The best thing to do is call the HOA office and let them know the location.

Neilz - I think you're right about that. I remember seeing the landscaping truck empty the bin one Saturday. It's an unsightly mess not to mention unsanitary. It appears that other garbage was tossed in the bin too - probably why it's overflowing:shakehead:

Sparrow, I place all my paper and paper junk mail in a paper bag for recycling and one day I came home from work early and found the bag on the curb. I thought they rejected the bag but it turns out a different truck made the rounds later that same day to retrieve the paper goods (separate from the glass, cans and plastic). But by then I had already taken the bag back into the house. I could be mistaken, but I believe that's what happened.
