Here's a link to an article on the latest DD shanagans.

    From the article:

We know you've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting ever since that "Dunkin' Donuts Coming Soon" billboard appeared next to the Sunoco on Truro Parish Drive. What was it, about a year and a half ago?

Some Broadlands residents are so amped about the New England treat of DD coffee and doughnuts that there are nearly 5,000 hits on the community boards contemplating the fate of this food and beverage.

Rumors have been swirling about why the build was delayed and whether or not there would be a second Dunkin' Donuts in Southern Walk, in the same center as the new Harris Teeter. Well, we've got the answers.

First, Kiran Gunnam, the franchise owner of the Truro Parish location, says that they are building now. A soil issue has been addressed, a fight with the developer over who would cover the (estimated) $200,000 fix has been resolved, and in the best case scenario we could see a finished building and open doors by August 2007.

Construction underway, eh. Doesn't that require, you know, construction equipment and stuff?

Oh, wait. The porta-john that blew over was set upright again and a new sign was put up. They have 5 months to go from dirt to donuts. I'd love to see that happen.

If it took 200 grand to fix that problem with that little building some one got taken. I don't care what kind of soil it was. I always said the concrete business (foundations etc) was the most lucrative trade out there with the least potential problems in spite of what you are hearing about this DD mess. Look what someone is stealing to fix it and I do mean stealing.

I have been trying to get my kids interested in that trade to no avail. They even speak enough Spanish to get by. :)

Has anyone actually witnessed construction taking place. I drive by at 5/5:30pm and see nothing changed and no one out there. Seems like they'd be taking advantage of the new Daylight Savings Time.

i saw two guys standing inside the fence today around 4:45....they were either plotting their grand plan for building....or were debating about stealing the porta-potty.

I think there were some lost concrete trucks on that property this morning and they were actually pouring concrete. Unless it was just a dream I had last night.

Not a dream. I did a double take myself, but this afternoon there were couple men smoothing out concrete. Dounuts by the fourth of July? It is possible if they don't stop again.

This has to be the longest construction project in history. I think Boston's Big Dig was done in less time!

Nice way to make the analogy with a Beantown reference...practically Shakespearean the way you worked in the Mecca of DD!!!

I bet they figured out that the fence was keeping the construction workers out and decided it was more efficient for the workers to actually be able to get on the work site :naanaa:

I'm fed up with this project. I think I'll sic the zoning department on them to get that mess cleaned up (or built) once and for all.
