    Hi everybody,
I was reading the local section of the Washington Post today and noticed an article about Metro in Loudoun county which said that of the two stations planned in addition to the airport, the west-most one is going to be at the Greedway/Ryan road intersection. I know it is not coming in for quite a few years, but that is very close to Broadlands, isn't it? The article also mentioned high-density developments that the station is going to be associated with. Since this is going to have a pronounced effect on Broadlands (and, in particular, on Southern Walk), I am wondering of some of the senior HOA members would care to comment. Some of the issues that I, personally, would be curious about are:

    1. What are the high-density developments and where would they be?

    2. Increased noise - is there anything being discussed about the sound barriers?

    3. Increased traffic to Broadlands area - anyone who lived near a Metro station knows it means people would come from all over Ashburn for a free on-street parking, which would make them one-lane. Considering the dangers of having this and kids playing outside, would it be wise to start thinking about parking zoning restrictions and enforcement?

I realize all this is pretty far, but I think it would be better to act aggressively on these (and, possibly other) issue before they materialize.

This something we all need to get involved in now. I have studied the proposed road plan by these two loudoun metro stops and here is a link to the entire proposed loudoun road system. http://www.loudounctp.com/documents.htm it is the first pdf file "ctp roads county wide map"

They have somewhat of a mess going on here with these roads. First glaring problem is shellhorn does not directly connect to sterling blvd and 28 interchange. that would give the traffic a straight shot all the way to 28 and to 7 if that is done. there also needs to be another simple connection on the north side of the toll rd from shellhorn to 606. There is no close connection from LCP and the metro to 606 on the south side of the parkway. The closet one is way down making LCP a straight shot to 50 which is great but the other is needed also.

My curiosity is on the political aspect of the metro stop location. After the developer-County Board influenece-peddling investigation news from last month, it got me to thinking of why the Metro/county picked this precise development location to put the station. Given it is following the 267 centerline, why not put the station at the LCP (a better auto roadway connection than Ryan Rd.), or out at Belmont Ridge, or even out at the end, where the Greedway meets the 15 bypass? Who/what put in the "fix" to make this particular development the "winner". I'm sure every land developer along 267 from Rt. 28 to 15 bypass would have killed to land that station in their project.

I could be wrong, but I believe they may have meant LCP/Greedway and not Ryan/Greedway. LCP switches back to Ryan Rd. just down from there in Brambleton and Moorefield Station was originally scheduled to be the last stop which is right there.

The last station is in Between LCP and Ashburn Village dr in the middle of the toll rd.

If you look at the big map and proposed developments it makes sense where it is going and is more accessible from several roads then just one. What does not make sense is some of the proposed new road grid, but that is being looked at in greater detail and will change.

The reason Ryan Rd was chosed is partly due to the approval of Moorefield Station and Loudoun Station developments there. Tens of thousands of new residential units, multiple 20 story high rises, millions of square feet of commercial space, etc.
What concerns me is that there has been zero, zilch, nada planning for the road network to get people into and out of these new stations. They will be heavily used by commuters from the west parking there to catch the Metro.

I have been getting some positive responses to my ideas for some changes to the proposed rd grid in this area behind the scenes. I will let more known what is going on as we get more into the heart of all this.

The proposed road system is just what it is and will go thru hopefully many positive changes such as a direct connection of shellhorn to sterling blvd as well as a shoot off to 606. Also A closer connection to 606 from LCP closer to the greenway is also being talked about as well as many other tweaks etc.

I am also proposing the design of the metro rail stations to be less sterile and more friendly both visually and people friendly. Perhaps using artists and the local area for inspiration. Getting some good response to that also.
