Is it just me, or people in the broadlands/ashburn forget what these are?
Especially on Ridgeway and Claireborne, some people dont even stop for the 4-way, they just keep rolling through.

Today, I almost got nailed by a person who didnt come to a complete stop,
it almost looked as if they were intentionally trying to hit me
what do they call it?, "California Rolling stop"...

Don't get me going on this subject!!! I've ALMOST got hit a few times with people totally ignoring stop signs around here. It's as if they're there for a convenience....to stop if they feel like it!! You might as well remove them for all the good they do. When I was a teenager and taking my road test - I failed it because I came to a rolling stop at a stop sign. Immediate failure. That taught me! If these people who are rolling thru the signs have kids in the car - it's a bad example for them to see. People need to slow down and take it easy on the roads. You'll get there.....CHILL!!

There was another thread about these a while ago I believe - the main subject of complaint then seemed to be about peoples' inability to simply take turns. Many seem to forget that there are up to four people waiting for their turn to cross and just go right after the person across them and forget about the people on their sides.

May I please add my rant?!?!?

This morning on my way down Ashburn Village after dropping off my son (past Gloucester heading towards Rte 7) I stopped behind a school bus with the big flashing lights and sign extended that was loading kids. Even the word "stop" on the extended sign was flashing lights, that is new to me. Last I checked I am supposed to stop, right!?!? Someone needed to tell the guy behind me who laid on his horn for 30 seconds that there is a rule, it is a rule for a reason and nothing in his life was important enough to blow by the bus and risk hitting a kid.

Thank you. I really needed to get that out :) I encountered a larger number of idiots on the road this morning than usual. Perhaps it was the slight drizzle that brought them all out of their holes.

    Here's my favorite;

I approach a four way on the bike & come to a complete stop. Another driver (in a coffin) approaches the intersection from the right. As I lift my feet the driver LOOKS ME IN THE EYES AND PULLS OUT knowing darned well I'll stop.

This is why they won't let me mount rockets on the bike.

It's not only the four way stops...it's stop signs in general...people just don't want to come to a complete stop...period. I walk on a regular basis...try crossing a street....not good....most cars won't wait for me to cross the street......

We can add to this people running red lights even the yellow are playing Russian Roulette with their children and families and friends. How many children have been orphaned by this or lets call it what it is they murder their children, friends and family by running an red light. This is my biggest peeve about drivers. Rolling thru a stop sign which when I lived in California was the called the New York Roll btw :) anyway it should not be done at any cost but leads mainly to fender benders , but running a light can lead to murder. Anyone that passes a stopped school bus should have mandatory jail time first offense a weekend in jail plus community service helping the school system or the childern in some way and offenses after that just make it worse and worse fro them. This past year there have been many accidents in this country involving people passing stopped school buses and some have led to the death of our children.

Don't even get me started on using a cell phone or driving too tired while driving.

And on the flip side, there are the ones that pull up at a 4-way stop and just sit there and watch all the cars go by. I was waiting my turn the other day and a guy just sat there through 2 cycles (that I saw) of people going though. Eventually after enough honks from the people behind him, he went. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!

How much money you think I can generate if I was a deputy handing out citations for "CA/NY rolling stops"? at just Ridgeway and Claireborne?

A ton! People need to be re-tested on the driver's road test probably every 4-5 years. I see many people also who do not know when they are required to actually stop for a school bus as well as how to rotate at the 4-way stop. I can't believe that this differs from state to state.., but know it does in other countries. Perhaps that is an issue as well. NAd everyone seems to be in such a damn hurry to pass you to get to the red light. We want to put stealh rockets on our cars and start taking out lousy drivers. Heading to Tysons on the toll road last weekend, a young woman ON HER CELL PHONE, moved right over into our lane while we were almost passing her! She looked over and smiled!!!!!

Send a complaint to the Sheriff's office:

    http://loudoun.vhost.vipnet.org/sheriff/complaint.htm

Record the location, make, model, and tag of the car. maybe they will set up an unmarked car at a few of these intersections. Easy revenue generator, and maybe save some lives.

Too funny. The hubby always says, "I wish I drove a beater car... I'd have just rammed that [censor] fellow [/censor]."

I have to say that I drive the intersection at Claiborne and Ridgeway several times a day and have actually never seen anybody run it. I certainly believe it happens, but maybe it's worse at rush hour?

People should really STOP when there is a stop sign, you never know, it could be that one chance where mr.or mrs. had too much to drink; blows a stop sign, and because you failed to stop, thinking that you had enough time to "CA/NY roll" through, and that mr. or mrs had too much to drink would stop; t-boned into your ride. Just a thought...

I know Wyneridge and Moorview dead end at Harris Teeters, people dont stop there either, but it could be that one chance some drunk person blows the stop sign.

So STOP it's for your own good... :)

Ridgeway & Claiborne next person that lays on their horn (since our nursery is closest to Ridgeway) - I think next time I will answer back with an airhorn of our baby crying after being woken up from his nap:madrant:. Some of the drivers are too self centered to realize they are in a neighborhood surrounded by homes, but need to make sure their car horn works - especially if someone skipped their turn @ the 4-way.

Friday evening in the dark rush hour timeframe, I pull up to the busy 4 way stop by Panera and each person takes their turn but then all of a sudden I could not believe that not only 1 but 2 EXTRA people scurried and followed the guy on my left during his turn. Amazing!
