If they did what this kid did I would in a heartbeat. I believe kids should be given chances if what they did was not so horrific as what this one ended up doing.

There are limits according to the degree and frequency of what one does. When you start stabbing people like this kid did, this kid and others like him needs to be sacrificed for the good of all. Tough Love and good bye for a long long time.

Ok I have been reading this from the start, first off let me say Sean was a well liked student at stone bridge. Second I was friends with him freshman and sophomore year of high school. I know his mother and father and they are good parents they always looked out for Sean and kept him out of trouble. Junior and senior year is when Sean started to turn the other direction, he left his parents house and started to stay at random places here in Ashburn. That’s when he started in on the drugs and drinking, I lost contact with him when this all started. I would see him around from time to time in Ashburn and sterling where he was staying with a friend. So for people to bash his mother and father is just bull :censored:. His mother and father run a heating and air conditioning business and are very well off and have always tried to keep Sean out of trouble, now let me ask everyone a question if your son or daughter had these kid of problems and were getting in trouble would you help them out or just turn your back on your own flesh and blood? The answer is NO. So it just goes to show how it is here in Ashburn, and how people think they are better than every one else and talk about people and make judgments even though they don’t know the person. Yes I think what he did was just Horrible and don’t know how he could even do such a thing. But the fact is Ashburn is not free of crime and acts of violence, Go and take a drive down Tillman terrace in Ashburn village or down through the apartments behind the wing factory or the apartments next to telos on Ashburn road. You will see the ghetto of Ashburn and where the majority of the stabbings and shootings and assaults take place. The crime rate is just going to get worse when you live in one of the fastest growing counties in the country, with all of the growth comes more and more people with more and more problems.

daburn - that's exactly what his parents did - they turned their backs and walked away. It's a parent's duty that once they see thir kid going down the wrong path to intervene immediatly & forcefully. Regardless of what folks may think a minor's rights are few & easily revoked. As a parent I DO have the right to search rooms & cars, I DO have the right to look in computers/iPods & cells phone and I DO have the right to get my kid into rehab and then pack him/her off to Military Boarding school if that's what it takes. In fact, it's not my right as a parent but my DUTY to the kid & to the society in which we live.

I've asked it before and I ask it again: why is there no parent license required????

I DID re-read my original post Silence- here it is:

"tell you what- regardless of economics, race, gender, religion or education, some people are just SCUMBAGS. period. no amount of perfect parenting or tough love wil un-scum a scumbag who wants to be scummy. i can't stand the attitude that someone's behavior is someone else's fault. he's screwed up plenty, and it's all on HIM."

I never called HIM a scumbag- I address scumbag-i-ness as a whole. :) saying that you can't blame parents for a lousy kid in every situation. i don't know him and can't say if he's confused, depressed, bipolar, in trouble or- gasp- just a scumbag. but i will state NOw for the record- I don't know him and do NOT judge him. but his actions point to someone who needs strong stiff punishment if he's ever going to change.

great debate Silence- it's a pleasure agreeing and disagreeing with you! ;)

thanks Erica- but to be honest- there was no low road to take! Silence addressed a pretty emotional issue without getting angry, sounds like he may have been close to someone with a problem at one time in life like i have. and i hope no one who knows Sean thinks I am generalizing him as a scumbag- i'll pray for him and hope he changes.

We actually agree, Redon....I love swift and severe punishment...I just read your post as "implying" the kid is a scumbag who "wants to be scummy." Anyway, we're on the same page...so Happy Thanksgiving!

    Daburn,

In this situation it is very hard to be sympathetic about this violent act. This child did not grow up in an environment of no hope - he grew up here with people like you......(unlike those inner city kids)

The parents need to appreciate their accountability in this......... It is not easy being a parent and the frank and hard conversations are what make the good ones stand out from the weak.........

My heart goes out to this child as this childish decision will cost him for the remainder of his life....

The challenge for society now is how do we not have this kid in a cage forever

I hope that the young man has some sort of revelation, and turns his life around. Obviously he needs help, during his incarceration.

I am not asking for forgiveness for this young man, let's just not "write him off" just yet. He could have 60+ years of life left, and I hope that he does more with it than eat prison food and deal prison drugs.

Remember, the US (Home of the Brave, Land of the Free) has 25% of the world's prisoners and only 5% of the world's population. We incarcerate at 10x the rate of any other "industrial nation" and this has yet to show any SIGNIFICANT reduction in the rate crimes being committed.

Let this YOUNG man serve his time, give him resources to straighten his a$$ out, and the opportunity to be a positive contributor to society. All I am saying, is I hope that we don't end up with career criminal, (If for no other reason that I don't want to be his next victim) and we should hope for him to change his life.

    you people are so judgemental
did you ever wonder why someone would just randomly stab someone
oh thats right maybe because the supposed innocent party is not so innocent
i was there that night eating and i have no idea who this poor kid is but you guys attacking him is all wrong
they owners were the ones who ignited all the violence
when the boy got outside to leave someone who worked there started to beat him
what else could the guy do?
yes what he did was stupid, i am in no way condoning stabbing in anyway i think it is awful
but i do not find it fair that the supposed victimes are so innocent in the situation when they so are not

i forgot to add that once the kid was outside two other people who worked there came out to fight so it was one against three. not exactly fair odds.

Boo Hoo, my heart goes out. Oh wait, not the first offense? No sympathies, perhaps you and your friends can play elsewhere.

from what earlier post say it looks like it was his first violent offense, and from ANOTHER previous post it also looks like the poor kid has an addiction, which is probably a key factor in everything.

p.s. thanks for the batman comment hahah
