    Would they?

Pollsters just moved LSU up over other teams to be the number 2 team, would they have done the same for a USC???

"Pollsters" Sheesh - is that a screwed up system or what? "Gee, I think their cheerleaders are nicer looking, I'll rank them #1!"

    Feh!

Good point! LSU deserved to be #2. Beat 6 top-20 teams, only had two 3OT losses.

I'd perhaps move USC up further. Every team has to make their case based on strength of schedule and how they ended the year.

The case for LSU is pretty strong:

I don't know as much about Ohio State since they played in a weak conference this year, or VT.

Cases can be made for or against for alot of teams this year. Maybe they should base the arguments on losses instead of wins.

VT's 2 losses came to the #2 team each time (now #24 and #2). LSU's lost to UK (23rd) and Ark (unranked at the time but 25 now). And the loss to LSU was EONS ago in the scheme of things.

I am not saying LSU is not deserving of playing in the NC game but I do think there are several other deserving teams as well.

Oh, and I do not buy into the SEC as a dominant conference and the Big Ten as that weak of a conference. I would say that with the exception of the ACC that the remaining 5 conferences were more equal than what the talking heads make them out to be.

Agree, though VT got crushed by LSU. And the Big 10 was weaker this year than most.

I guess it all points to the need for a playoff to determine who is the best. I think it's ridiculous that a team like Ohio State will wait 6 weeks to play their final game--truly doesn't make sense.

I hope that the Big 10 re-evaluates their scheduling and adds a bi-week or two and finishes after Thanksgiving.

On another note, I have a question for you T8. What's your preference on the Michigan/Florida bowl match up?

Tough call since I do not like either team! :D

If I was to bet $$$, I would pick Florida.
UM had trouble for 3 years with a mobile Troy Smith and Tebow will continue that trend. I think it will be a competitive game as UM should be able to establish the run with a healthy Hart and possibly slow the game down a bit.
Another reason is that it will be a psuedo home game for the Gators.

That was exactly the reason for my curiosity. I agree on your assessment.

Here is a joke I heard today...

When Les Miles was contemplating his options between coaching either LSU or Michigan he realized that his primary goal was to beat Ohio State. He then of course picked the school where his goal would most likely be achieved.

You can go to USA Today to see how all the coaches voted.

...as did all the other teams remotely in contention for the number 2 spot (except Hawaii and Kansas). I don't believe Kansas should be in the title game since the only ranked team they beat was a then #24 Kansas St and their only true test was a loss to then #4 Missouri. Hawaii played only one ranked team (#19 Boise St). I think any way you slice it, there is going to be a 2-loss team in the title game.

True, but I never said that LSU didn't belong there. LSU loves to mention that they didn't lose in regulation, but they still lost twice and one was at home against an unranked opponent. A loss is a loss.

What I don't like is what happened to Georgia. I am not saying that Georgia belongs in the championship, but why were they ranked so high going into the weekend? What changed for them? Why LSU over VT? I don't buy the argument that they beat them in the 2nd week of the season at home. That has matter in the past, so it shouldn't matter now.

Some of the leapfrogging was inconsistent...then again, the entire poll and assumptions are ridiculous to begin with. Many years, your final placement depends where you are ranked PRIOR to even a game being played.

Interesting that if you throw out the voting polls and just look at the computer strength of schedule ranking, VT is #1 followed by LSU then OSU.

Let's see, since Les Miles has declared he is staying at LSU, I hope OSU beats the snot out of them and brings the National Championship to where it belongs....the Big Ten!!!

Especially since the SEC has won 2 of the last 4...and Ohio State got "the snot beat out of them" last year!

Kind of interesting if you go to the link you posted you'll find that VT's own Beamer voted LSU #1 and VT #2. Does this suggest that he supported the leap? Perhaps he had LSU ahead in the prior week as well. I can't find a link to show past votes.

And what does last year have to do with this year?
