I talked to one of the guys laying the cable on Demott this morning. Yes, it is Verizon FIOS!!!! He said it should be around a month or so for Verizon to run the lines to the houses. So, EVERYONE who lives off Demott - start calling Verizon so they move faster for us.

I live in the Southern Walk Apartments, now know as Broadlands Apartments, and I have been told by the regional maintenance manager that they are working on getting FIOS in the apartment complex.

I've talked to friends who have had it for some time now and they're all very happy with it. However, all but one of them opted for only Internet service through FiOS and use either Dish or DirecTV for television.

I have heard from several people who have the FIOS TV included in a bundle and they have been pleased with it so far. I am looking forward to it.

I have nothing against FIOS. The friends I know who have it seem to like it. Just from experience as both a customer and a worker for various telco/service providers I have yet to see a company that provides perfect service and doesn't earn their share of complaints. I find the talk here humorous as FIOS seems to get somewhat of an image as the pending savior and while I suspect it will come with better service than we currently have I also think there is a bit of "the grass is greener" mentality going on too.

At this point the only remote complaint I could see with FIOS is the dependency on the home's electric service for the telephone whereas traditional phone service is purely powered by the telco. In our area this probably is a non-issue as our electricity seems to be for the most part very dependable. Verizon does install battery backups at each house but I imagine that doesn't keep the service running all that long. Where I grew up it was quite normal to lose power for hours at a time but the phone always worked. You kinda lose that with FIOS.

    Flynnibus,

They were near the pool on Demott this morning - heading towards Waxpool. I think it is dug up all the way up to either Vestals Gap or maybe even Broadlands Blvd. I noticed because of all of the dirt on the sidewalks while walking my dog.
