    Hi,

I'm newly pregnant with #2 and am considering a new OB, since my current one is in Alexandria and can't make that drive anymore.

I'd like to go to either Loudoun or Fair Oaks, but not sure if it's worth it to make the trek to Fair Oaks, or just stay local. I had a prior c/s so I can't use the LCM (although I'd love to). I read all the prior reviews of OB/GYNs, and got a good sense of who to use at Loudoun.

Just curious if anyone goes to Fair Oaks and would you recommend it or your OB?

    Thanks!!!

Don't know about Fair Oaks, but I've heard nothing but got things about Loudoun since they opened the new birthing center.

I delivered two of my kids at Fair Oaks.

With my third child, I had a labor room that was directly over some construction and the noise was awful. Luckily I was too busy to notice it for long. It was the day before Thanksgiving and I think they were overbooked. We didn't see the labor nurse very often. When my water broke we buzzed the nurse's station and told them but no one came to check on me. My husband had to finally go out and track a nurse down.

For recovery I had to share a room with another woman. This was a first for me and I'm sure it's obvious why private rooms are more appealing. We were also in the last room of the maternity hall and the shoplifting sensor they attached to the baby's umbilical stump kept setting off the alarm system (I guess the room was too close to the hallway doors so the sensor thought we were crossing that threshold even though we weren't even leaving our room). This caused the security guards to come up and the nurses were required to ask every mother if they had their baby. This quickly got old as did the dirty looks from the staff who were convinced I was scooping up my newborn and holding him out the doors just for a prank.

Can't say I'd recommend Fair Oaks.

My wife delivered our son at Fair Oaks last year. We picked it over our other insurance options b/c it wasn't nearly as busy as say Fairfax, and the maternity ward was newly remodeled and single rooms. We ended up with a end room which was huge. We got lucky b/c they showed us the smallest room they had during the tour. Our son was premature and was in the nicu for a week. After my wife was discharged they let us stay in a room while we visited, of course this was based on availability. We had a great experience there.

They put the shoplifting sensor on the stump????? Just seems painful to me. Ouch.

I deliverd all three children at Fair Oaks - they were wonderful. I had post-delivery complications with my third and I was lucky to have such caring nurses around the clock. I would highly recommend this hospital and Dr. Sethi who delivers there.

Also delivered at Fair Oaks (2005) and had a great experience there. Newly remodeled and had a nice private room the entire time. Went into labor on weekend so it was very quiet and pretty empty. Admit that when we checked out on Monday morning it started getting a bit more noisy with usual hospital noises I guess (announcements...) and more scheduled procedures.

    Best Wishes!

It was on the bit that eventually falls off so I'm guessing there's no feeling in it.

I should have mentioned that my somewhat negative experience was three years ago and it sounds like things have improved. (I also delivered there eight years ago and was pleased with the care but the more recent experience soured the place for me).

I have delivered at Fair Oaks and Fairfax hospitals. While the circumstances of my delivery at Fair Oaks were not positive (my daughter died during labor), my experience there with all of the nurses was phenominal. They were extremely supportive of me and my family and went above and beyond to help provide us some comfort during a very difficult time. I've had several friends deliver at Fair Oaks, and it has been nothing but a good experience for all of them. The new L&D wing is very nice.

I was not as fond of the nurses at Fairfax hospital, but I was too overjoyed at the birth of my son to pay too much attention to them. My new and favorite doctors (Dr. Dobrzynski, Dr. Silas and Dr. Berry) also work at both Fair Oaks and Fairfax hospital.

Good experiences at the Loudoun Birthing Inn and you can't beat the convenience. I wouldn't want to go farther when in labor, that's for sure! I used Loudoun OBGYN, Dr. Thompson. Received great care and attention from that group.

Delivered 2 at Fair Oaks...but 10 years ago so my hospital experiences aren't relevant. However, I do love my ob/gyn and still go there. It is Greenbriar Ob/Gyn, and Dr. Sarita Gopal is wonderful. I've been with her 12 years. Dr. Ray Wertheim is a male doctor on staff who actually delivered the kids...very knowledgable and is well connected at the hospital. Dr. Laura Pickford has been there awhile but I haven't seen her. All have been in practice 12+ years. 703.359.5900 The practice is across Fairfax Cty Pkwy from the hospital.

I delivered at Fair Oaks right before Christmas 2005. It was really crowded as most of us were scheduled to be induced because it was right before Chrstmas. Although it was crowded I felt that the nurses were very attentive and caring. I ended up with a c-section at 9pm that evening and the staff was still awesome and attentive. I had a private room near the nurses station. It was a bit small but I had my own bathroon and I was very happy about that. I really like my privacy. While I have nothing to compare it to I feel I would still choose Fair Oaks over Fairfax Hospital if I was not expecting any complications, although
I know in the end you never know. I have heard great things about Loudoun but my Dr. did not deliver at Loudoun so Fair Oaks was my choice.

I was under the "care" of Drs. Pickford and Wertheim when my daughter died during labor. Based on my experience with them while pregnant and the outcome of my pregnancy, I cannot recommend Greenbriar Ob/Gyn.

I will deliver my first at Loudoun in February and I am really excited. I have taken a tour and met many of the nurses there through classes taken, they have been wonderful. There are only private rooms and during labor and delivery you get one nurse that stays with you.

My OB is Dr. Angela Bess, whose office is just across the street from the hospital. She has been wonderful as well. She has a single practice and I have never waited longer than 10 minutes for my appointments. I highly recommend her.

    Good Luck.

By LCM do you mean Loudoun COmmunity Midwives? My sis in law used them for her 2 children, both c sections. They attended while Dr Foster preformed the surgery. WHy couldn't you use them again?
I delivered 3 of my children at Fair Oaks and it was fine, I lucked out and had a private room each time. Dr Castle was the doctor, although I used their midwives as well. My 4th was at Loudoun with LCM and I LOVED that experience!
    Good luck!

My wife delivered our 4 kids at Fair Oaks and everytime was great. We have nothing but praises as she was very well taken care of.
For our first child she had to share a room but the other 3 she was able to get her own room. Each time was just as great and sharing a room was as bad as she thought it was going to be. But now Fair Oaks Hospital is remodeled with only private rooms.
Viv has been with Greenbriar OB-GYN for the past two kids and Dr. Gopal has delivered both of them. We think the world of Dr. Gopal as she is always so professional with a personality wrapped in.
Dr. Gopal will again deliver our 5th child next month at Fair Oaks Hospital.

Whether you go with Loudoun or Fair Oaks, Congratulations and have fun with new found bundle of joy!!!

Had a wonderful experience at Fair Oaks. All of the staff were wonderful and we were there at a very busy time. Order the chocolate cake from room service. It's delicious!
Seriously, I delivered one child at Fairfax and one at Fair Oaks, and I'd go back to F.Oaks for the next one if I had to choose. Loved it there! You can check/send email from your bed and get food whenever you want it. The staff could not do enough to make sure both the baby and I were comfortable.
    Best of luck to you!
