Did anyone else notice a $10 increase in their Comcast bill this month? It looks like the Silver Pack (one premier channel + internet) is about $7 more now and the base tv package is $3 more. I don't remember getting a notice about this so I suspect this was just slipped in there.

More $$$ - horrible service......I can't wait to get rid of them. Our new bill will be almost $200.00!!! That's ridiculous. We have high speed, two HD sets and the silver package, which I discontinued.....it got the monthly down to about $144.00. Still high, but better.

I'm now paying close to $68/month just for their Internet service. I use Dish for TV, but I'm about to consolidate everything with Comcast until FiOS arrives late-summer 2008. If you think Comcast is bad, you've never been a Dish Network customer :)

WOW - good to know - we're trying to hold out for FIOS....but we're considering going to either Dish or Direct....anyone out there use Direct?

Only thing I would tell you to be careful about is that if you go with either Dish or Direct TV at this point, they'll probably have you sign a 1 or 2 year deal/contract with them. So when FiOS does become available, you'll have to wait and ride out your contract duration or pay some step fees...

With Comcast, you at least can get service without a contract, which makes it appealing to me since I can jump ship at anytime once a better alternative arrives.

That's pretty much what I did today. I returned the DVR on the set that gets little use and now just get the lower SD stations that the TV can tune, dropped the silver package (HBO), and dropped the sports tier (no need, football is over for now). My bill should go from $180 to $140. As you said, still high but better.

DirecTV used to be a good service but they're going down hill (IMO). I'm dropping them and I'm having problems with the contract. First I was told that I was out of contract. Then when I sent email to confirm I was told that my contract would end this summer. When I asked for clarification they told me they made an error and the contract expires summer of 2009. Mind you that the last receiver I bought from them was more than a year ago when their contract period was only 12 months. Today if you sign up for DirecTV they'll make you sign a 24 month contract. If you're waiting for FiOS I would stick with Comcast unless you don't want FiOS TV service and don't mind their new tuners. BTW, DirecTV's prices are also going up next month.

I took advantage of a deal TiVo was having and transfered my lifetime subscriptions from some old TiVo boxes onto new TiVo HD's. Comcast will be here in the morning to do the install and then I'll be battling DirecTV over this contract.
