it;s good, but I am a red hot and blue or famous daves girl. of course, NEITHER compares to my dad's bbq, but that's a different class of bba altogether! can't compare Sizzler to Ruth Chris! that's how good my dad's Q is... :)

Red Hot & Blue and Famous Daves are more Memphis/Texas styled bbq...Carolina brothers is Carolina styled bbq (more vinegar based). I like all of them, too...but nothing beats homemade bbq by our dads!

I've tried the vinegar based kind (in restaurants and by individuals) and don't like it that much since I'm not a big vinegar fan. However, I have had the pulled pork sandwich from Carolina Bros./Partlows and thought it was good.

Ditto. Danny Hurdle's brother lived on my court where I grew up (over in Sterling) and when we had block parties they would bring the smoker thing and let the pig cook ALL day. It was/is good. I've been to the old Partlow brothers store recently and had both pork and chicken and it was delicious!

so finally tried Mexican Garden... great service, nice atmosphere- sorry to say that 95% of the food was bland and only so so. nothing was really BAD- per se- just nothing was worth returning for.

the fresh tableside guac was nicely presented but surprisingly bland considering all the fresh ingredients in it! could have used more spices and lime juice to kick in flavor. the chips were not fresh, and the salsa was too watery to have any flavor. i told the waitress about the salsa when she checked on us, so she brought us something spicier- i was getting a good feeling! it ended up being a bowl of smoky, chipotle, peppery paste- definitely spicy! wasn't the flavor we were looking for but it at least had spark. the queso dip was good- nothing special, but far and away better than the gub'ment cheese that Anita's uses for queso!

my pork carnitas were very tender and flavorful- I truly enjoyed them a LOT. huge portion- couldn't finish! but, the rice and beans on the side could have been out of a box and or can. same with the corn tortillas that came with hubby's arroz con pollo. so cookie cutter alike, so blah, they could not have been made in house. the arroz con pollo had great potential- huge portion, colorful, plentiful fresh veggies, thick strips of chicken in a sauce over rice, it looked and smelled WONDERFUL. but no spice, no kick, no pizzazz, no personality. (yes i think food has personality!!)

i'm bummed- i REALLY wanted to love it! but the service was excellent, the atmosphere was so so nice, and the overall experience itself was very pleasant. i'll go for margaritas and salsa dancing on Thursdays- and kids eat free Tuesdays!

give it a shot- you might like it- but if you want spice, ASK for it.

I thought the same thing when I tried it...very bland. Plus the chicken enchiladas were full of bones. Not appetizing. The chips and salsa were good though. Crispy chips; not too, too spicy salsa.

T'Killa on 50 was today's lunch. Seriously kicked every other Mexican restaurants butt like Tyson in his prime. Awesome, legit Mexican food. It can be done in Northern Virginia!

Uncle Julio's in One Loudoun is open - with long waits for tables. I've always liked that place.
I went to Los Agaves Grill last weekend -- it's in the same shopping center with Opa Mezze, the Elements massage place, and Giant. I would go to Los Agaves again. It wasn't anything close to earth-shatteringly awesome but it was decent and entirely satisfactory.

Plaza Azteca over in Sterling near Cascades (where Olive Garden/SweetWater is) never disappoints!

There is a new restaurant in Ashburn called TaQue Mexican BBQ that you have to try if you like Mexican food. They fused Mexican with BBQ and I have to say the way they smoke the meats makes their tacos/burritos really juicy and tasty. They also have a great little full service bar and the owner is super nice and friendly and kids eat free on Tuesdays.

Since you just posted their ad for their grand opening... it's a point of conflict where you refer to them as 'they', if you are actually involved with them.

We tried TaQue tonight...not enough meat, we thought for the price. Similar to Chipotle but I thought it was better. We will try again, but they need to increase the meat portion.

We went to Taque for the second time tonight. I like it. Not what would call "Mexican" or nominate for this "Best Mexcian" thread, but good food in it's own unique category.

I went to Taque yesterday. The owner/manager was very welcoming and talked to me about the vegetarian options. I had a delicious black bean burrito. Next time I will go back with my husband, who is NOT a vegetarian. :)

Agreed! We moved here from Williamsburg, VA and frequented their Williamsburg location quite often and were excited to see that one was opening up here! We've tried a majority of the restaurants listed in this thread and Plaza Azteca definitely is tops on my list.
