Waxpool speed limit change

I noticed some new speed limit signs on Waxpool. Speed limit is now 40 instead of 35. Truro Parish is still 35, however.

 

I did not know that there were any "40mph" zones here. It seems that it is either 35 or 45.

I will have to watch that and I am sure that there will be a police officer "just hanging around" the area with the new $peed limit zone.

 

I saw the sign yesterday and thought it was 45.

 

the speed limit going by Verizon on waxpool is all of a sudden 45 - once you pass the homes on the right. It's about time.

 

Now if only we could get Shellhorn between Ryan Park Shopping Center and the LCP raised to 45 as well...

 

As long as we're on the subject of speed limits, the limit on Ashburn Village Blvd. between Farmwell and Route 7 was changed last week to 40MPH.

 

It's now 45mph between Regency and Waxpool/Farmwell.

 

I saw it too. How does that happen? They were both well into the intersection, and one of them was driving a friggin Suburban!

 

I read an interesting article on how the increase of signage actually has decreased the populations ability to drive. Basically it lowers the level of thought people put into driving, expecting the signs to do it for them.

So basically, living in rural parts, with blind corners and the crazy drunk neighbor up the road made us more alert and aware of our surroundings.

 

I'm always amazed at the number of accidents in the most unlikely places. Like anything on a 25MPH road that causes more than just a small amount of damage. Obviously, people just don't pay attention to their driving.

Frankly, I drive through the intersection by the Broadlands sign near Southern Walk fairly frequently (although not daily) and it doesn't seem like an especially dangerous intersection. If people would just be kind enough to actually stop at the stops signs there I don't see the problem. Please feel free to correct me if there are blind spots because of the overpass or something because there must be something up there.

And don't be like my husband and choose driving through an intersection as the time to futz around with the XM radio or anything else. Wait until you're on a straightaway with few cars around you. :rolleyes3:

 

I always wonder if slow speed limits cause more accidents.

Take for instance 25 Mph zones. At that speed, I wonder if it is more likely that the driver will be more easily distracted from the driving.

I know that when I drive at 25 Mph I have to take special pains to remain focused on driving or my mind will wander and I start looking more at the houses than the road.

 

back in the day people cared more about their neighbors and weren't so wrapped up in their own tiny little worlds. driving was all you did in a car, not texting, phone conversations, reading newspapers and programming navs. there were also 2 little things called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY snd SHAME that motivated people to behave better in public.

 

There are times when some good old fashioned shame would do wonders for some people's characters.

 

followed up by a caning or a sign around the neck advertising their offense, should shame in and of itself not suffice!

I sometimes wonder why some of you post single word responses or tidbits of info with no real content to the conversation. Are you just posting because you want to see your name online or do you truly have no life.

Try and contribute a little more, I think your new and old neighbors would appreciate it.

 

Probably for the same reason other people write posts complaining about other people's posts.

I think it is called "freedom of speech" and it used to be the latest thing back when we honoured that quaint piece of paper called the Constitution.

 

Just like your post does not add to this conversation?????
