Let me start this by saying a really am an animal lover...however after just being woken up at 4:12AM by my neighbors yappy annoying little dogs, I'm at the end of my rope.:angryfire: I waited outside to have a word with my neighbor - but the rain and the fact he wouldn't come outside to let the dogs in until I was gone made that not happen.

This isn't my first problem with this guy. I live in a townhouse. My neighbor, instead of walking said yappy dogs, allows them to "do their business " on his deck. (Its really great grilling in the summer looking a deck of dog poo next door let me tell you) They will leave their dogs outside for extended periods of time barking, and barking, and barking. Its only out of laziness they do this rather than (gasp) walk their dogs. They have another dog they keep in the garage 23 hours and 55 minutes of everyday that they never walk either - just rinse out the garage floor once or twice a day. Never see them take any of them for a walk.

This guy is one of these ppl who says if you live in townhouses you should expect to hear your neighbors and "deal with it". While this is true to a degree, I feel like most ppl would use a little common-sense and not have just a selfish view of doing only what is good for them even if its driving those around them insane. But apparently I'm delusional.

Does anyone have any advice/suggestions anything on how to deal with this? Is there any HOA laws he's breaking? Short of confronting him (which will do no good), doing nothing (which will do me no good) is there a third option??

Well, it sounds like you tried to wake him at 412am and he ignored you or maybe didn't hear you over the barking dogs. If you've tried to discuss this with him (are any of your other neighbors bothered by the constant barking?), and cannot get any cooperation, report the offender (after 11pm) to the local sheriff's office.

I feel badly for the dog kept confined in the garage. Could the dog be in ill health, kept indoors mostly, but let out in the garage to relieve itself?

As for the dog poo on the deck - isn't that a health violation? I have a neighbor who does the same and their children scoop the poop and try to pitch it over the fence into the woods. Nice huh?

We have old neighbors who let their dog poop on the deck also. One of our other neighbors who lives a couple of doors down knew it was happening too, and thank you - she called Animal Control. I don't know what was communicated to these people but the 'deck pooping' stopped. I would suggest you give them a call - especially about the dog kept in the garage all day/night.

That is a reason why I do not like Townhouses. But I think you should definately call the police if its at 4am because thats a domestic distrubance am I right? Also with the dog in the garage you could call pet services I would think. Just exagerate a little to get them to come out
    goodluck i hate inconsiderate neighbors

We actually did call the police last night/this morning. Unfortunatly by the time they arrived the dogs had been brought inside and the officer left without knocking on their door.

As for the poor dog in the garage I have called animal control numerous times. I am not sure if they have come for visit after any of the cals or not.

I would continue to call Animal Control when you see the dogs are being mistreated, outside in bad conditions, etc.
My neighbors left their dog tied outside in all weather while they were gone for the day. One day I was tired of the constant barking and watching the poor dog get tangled on the leash, so I called Animal Control and they came to the house later that afternoon. I felt bad calling, but it did seem to help the situation.
Not only is this situation with the barking very disruptive to you, it is poor treatment of the animal(s) who are helpless.

Just remember that the dog can't call the authorities for help themselves.

They rely on us to help them.

Anyone who would lock a dog up in a garage all the time, you can imagine what is happening to the animals inside the house.

sigh, why do people always rely on someone else to solve their problems... take out one of the fence slats and your problem's solved. They let the dogs out, the dogs find the hole, the dogs escape.

Now since they're little annoying yappers, you don't have to worry about them attacking some little kid wobbling by on his roller blades. Some mom gets freaked and calls 911 cause there're "wild dogs foaming at the mouth terrorizing broadlands" (love how soccer moms blow things out of proportion). Dogs get taken away (are they wearing tags considering they never leave the property?) and your problem is solved. No conflict or confrontation necessary.

I am fairly sure I know which house you are talking about and I have seen animal control at their house before, most recently a couple of weeks ago. If this is the house I am thinking about, the dog that's in the garage used to be an outdoor dog that lived in a large kenel in the unfenced backyard until the HOA (I believe) forced them to put the dog inside. It's been living in the garage for probably two years now.

Contact Wes Schroeder at the HOA office. He can tell you what the HOA can do for each of the issues you are having.

I to live a door down from this neighbor. It is VERY irritating as I myself have dogs. While I know that dogs bark .... I'd like to think that mine aren't overly annoying. This person consistantly lets them out at 4:00AM and they YAP all the damn time. I am very proud of you for standing up to them. Nor do I leave my dogs out ever unsupervised or let them do so at obscene hours of the morning or not. He frequently does this at around 10 or 11 o'clock at night too. In former years, this wouldnt have bothered me ... Im a night owl. But soon I will have a little one that will need to sleep and I too am going to have to cherish every ounce of sleep I can get! haha.

Unfortunatley, I have never seen animal control there ... but we are relatively new.
