I fully believe in talking to your neighbor if there is something that is causing a problem, especially something that is waking you up. I am a very light sleeper so any noise wakes me and barking dogs are at the top of the "wake me up" list.

We received a note card today from someone who is complaining about our dog barking. What bothers me is that there isn't a phone number so I could call and talk to this person - just a note that suggests we use a bark collar. Now this is excellent advice except our dog doesn't bark for hours as this note states. She is only outside long enough to do her business and then she is brought back inside. If she does start barking we immediately bring her in. We are very conscious of her barking, especially if she is let out during "normal" sleep hours.

If you are going to leave a note at someone's house, make sure you have the right house. Leave a phone number so the person can contact you if they want to. Don't just accuse people of something anonymously - have the courage to leave contact information so the issue can be discussed. Just because I have a fence and a dog doesn't mean it is my dog barking. Our neighbors have a dog also but they use the invisible fence collar - is it their dog? Quite possible. Maybe even a combo of the two dogs so it sounds like one dog barking throughout the day. Who knows what this person is hearing and how they know which house the noise is coming from since they live "on a cul-de-sac away from us". I'll never know because I can't talk to the person accusing me of letting my dog bark for hours on end.

Maybe that's why I am so bothered by this anonymous note accusing me of "leaving my dog out for hours", "having an unhappy dog" and "causing stress to my neighbors". So now the person who left this note thinks that something might be done to stop the barking, but since it was given to the wrong house nothing is going to change.

I understand your frustration. Never nice to be accused of something you didn't do. since you are a light sleeper, maybe you can pass the note along to the owners of the dog you hear barking, add your own note with your name and number. this would show more than one person is effected.
i personnaly would write a nice note, but i wouldn't sign my name or leave my number. we had a neighbor that thought we called animal control. they wouldn't talk to us for months. we have no idea who called, but were secretly happy since thier dogs bark ALL NIGHT LONG in the front yard. they would forget to let them in before they went to bed. you are pretty bothered by the note, the person who wrote it didn't want confrontation.
good luck, hope you find the barker!

Wasn't that person ... the person they mentioned doesnt have a fence in their backyard.

I know the neighbor that was being complained about in the referenced post... and trust me - well warranted.

No it wasn't me - thank you very much for the blind accusation.

Lighten up, Francis. Clearly the "accusation" was not against you--it was against the person you described in your post.

The scene: A man is sitting on one end of a park bench, at the other end is a dog. Inspector Clouseau walks up. Queue Cheesy French Accent.

Clouseau: "Escuse me, Monsiuer, but your dawg, does he bite?"
Man: "No. my dawg, he does not bite."
Clouseau: "Such a good goggie." Pats dog on the head
Dog: "GROWL, SNAP, BITE, CHEW, MAME, RIP, GROWL"
Clouseau: "Monsieur! I thought you said your dog, he does NOT bite!"
Man: "He does not! That is not MY dog!"

We now return you to the regularly scheduled thread.
