The movie "A Christmas Story" is 25 years old this season. If that don't make you feel old!

Since we are putting up the tree and decorating the inside of the house this week, I guess I need to go into the basement and get my "Major Award" and put it in the window.

Do we have any other "ralphies" that will have a leg lamp in the window?

I was just reading on CNN about this - I don't have a "Major Award" - but maybe the lamp post we can see if our tongues will stick to

About 3-4 years ago Marianne bought me a leg lamp (full size). One of the bestest gifts and an instant holiday decoration.

I really think I remember a leg lamp in a window of a house on Stone Hollow. The people may have moved or I may just have been imagining things...I don't know. But, I'll certainly be looking for it again this year!

 

I saw this in the theater. Keep your lamps & your memorized lines. If you saw this by projected film on canvas, speak up.

anyone read any of his books before the movie came out?

 

I didn't read the books before the movie came out but I did later. I think my dad did, though. Some of the books were in the house. I was only 15 years old when the movie came out so I may have been a tad young to fully appreciate it at that time.

I do recall Jean Shepherd's fondness of Polish girls...

Edited to add that I just pulled two of the books off our bookshelf: In God We Trust and Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories. Does that lend me any street cred from this crowd? ;-)

 

I didn't see it in the theater but I think I saw it the first time on Beta. Does that count?

 

While flipping through one of the books I found a printout of hubby's college schedule from July 1993. It's printed on form feed paper. Ah... the memories.

 

The books are halarious, I gave them to the Mrs. for a Christmas one year. Good read.

 

There is also a set of audio tapes of some of his stories told by Jean. I wish I could find them on CD.

What is on CD are releases of Jean Shepherd's radio programs from the 60-70's He was quite the interesting radio personality and his zany stuff predates many of the more familiar radio personalities

well yep the movie is a classic, we don't watch it any more since the year that TNT got it's hands on it and played it incessantly.

 

We never watched it on TNT, but we still watch it every Christmas Eve.
