    Fellow Sushi Lovers--

Just wanted to ask your opinions about Todai restaurant at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax. According to the reviews, the Todai Buffet is great for sushi (all types, soups, vegetable dishes, desserts, etc.). Has anyone been to this sushi buffet restaurant? From looking at their website, it is kinda pricey for a family of 2 adults and 6 kids.

Personally, we prefer Tsuanami Japanese restaurant at Fair Lakes Center (where the BJ's club is located). They have a great sushi buffet and other items for lunch on Monday thru Saturday. Hours during the week are 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and Saturdays from 12 pm to 3 pm. Prices are around $14.95--call check to verify--kids 1/2 price. Great service and food. Website doesn't list sushi buffet; but they do definitely offer it. Open on Sunday nights for dinner also.

We will be at Fair Oaks area shopping tomorrow--all 8 of us. Probably will eat at Tsunami. Friendly staff and service. Tsuanami also has an extensive dinner menu at reasonable prices too.

    Websites are below--

    www.todaifairfax.com (Todai's restaurant site/info.)

    www.tsunamioffairfax.com (Tsunami's restaurant site/info.)

    Thanks--

    Foodie

    Hi Foodie!

Funny you should be asking about Todai's. My husband and I moved here from Hawaii and are having a hard time finding great sushi. Two weeks ago we were thrilled to have found Todai's in Fair Oaks mall. We loved the sushi and though it was a bit pricey to us it was worth every penny. Go hungry :)! I will make it a point to try Tsunami's this weekend as I am always looking for great sushi and Japanese food and my goodness who doesn't love a buffet.

Not to change the topic but I noticed that you recommended a Asian market on another forum. Since I am rather new to the area I only shopped-knew of Grand Mart. How does it compare to the other market you recommended?

    Thanks-a-bunch!

Todai is exepensive, but well worth it... I usually go there hungry, and only for sushi and sashimi.... they have other stuff besides sushi.

The one in herndon that I like for lunch buffet is Matsuri, it's off of elden street, next to the outback steakhouse.

if you ever venture to Germantown, MD. there is a place called Yuraku, I highly recommend that place...best sushi in the area.

    toodles808 and others--

Well, we just returned from eating the sushi buffet (8 of us--2 adults and 6 kids) from Tsunami restaurant. The sushi buffet also includes miso soup, salad, and other Asian dishes. The price of the buffet Monday thru Saturday for lunch is $12.95 for adults and 1/2 price for kids under 12--not $16.95 as I previously posted.

As far as Todai, it is quite pricey, and at Tsunami the quality of the sushi, sashimi, etc. are great and the prices.

toodles808--As far as the Asian markets, Super Hmart & Hmart stores are the same companies. The Super Hmart in Fairfax is cleaner and better staffed to me than Grand Mart stores. The Lotte Plaza store is older than the NEW one opening in Chantilly 02/20/09. Lotte's is located in Fairfax Circle/Fairfax areas in an older strip mall. Not quite as nice and clean as Super Hmart.

When we ate at Tsunami today, we drove through Sully Plaza to view the NEW Lotte's Plaza. Pretty nice and impressive--so we will see how it compares to Super Hmart's store.
