    Hi,

We had kept our Trash Can (Large Green) out on the last trash day-Feb 12th 09. It was the windy day and I came back in the evening to find ours missing! Its still not turned up. It CANNOT have flown away. I went around checking if there r any extra trash containers and dint find any. So any idea whats happening? Can I ask the HOA to replace it?

    Thanks in advance.

Call the trash company and let them know, they supply the trash cans and will bring you a new one.

Thanks for the no. Zeratul. I called and they are asking that I pay $95 for replacement. I mean, its not fair from my end - I didn't lose it :angryfire: & I dont want to pay 100 bucks for another one..what to do?

A hundred bucks to replace a trash can?? Ouch! That stynks.

Since it is my understanding that we don't own the trash cans, can we put identifying markings on it so it can be identified?

then I would pile my garbage on the curb.... let them figure it out. No, of course I do not really mean that, but what the heck is up with being charged? As if it is "your" fault automatically. I would have thought that a one-time replacement is SOP.

Through no fault of your own you get penalized... nice. I think this is the part that Maureen calls New Vision like "7 on your side"... And seriously, I would use something else if you have to until this is resolved.

Poor service such as this is another reason we're moving to a new trash company. I totally understand your frustration. Keep in mind that the new company will be distributing new containers soon, so if there's a way you can manage until then... Otherwise, maybe grabbing a small container at Lowes/Home Depot to tide you over for a few weeks? I seem to recall getting one there for $25. You could use it for yard waste or something later on.

Not trying to excuse New Vision; just trying to give you alternatives to keep you going until we transition over to the new service...

I got in touch with a VP someone of the trash company - and he actually said that it could've flown in that wind and hence not their problem! I'm definitely not paying for another one. So looks like I might have to wait like Eric has said..Thanks everyone for the group ranting-tat helps:)

Woopity, I would request that nobody take your suggestion. I would hate for one of our residents to be caught by security 'stealing' a trashcan of all things...

Please refrain from making such suggestions in the future.

is new vision going to collect all their existing cans when the contract ends? I think I read that but just wondering... I've never had any problems with them on our street though.

That stinks you have to pay for a new one, but yes - you did lose it. It was in your responsibility. Someone has to be responsible for it or else people would take advantage of the system. "Look a new trashcan, I'll give it to a friend or relative that doesn't have a service like ours and just report it missing. They will just give me a new one. And I'll sell that one to a guy at work and just get another, all for free." Not likely that it would happen but it can.

Now that being said, I highly doubt we're forced to use their trashcans. You can pick up a pretty good trashcan at Home Depot for under $30.

That's correct, you can use any trashcan you want, in fact, maybe you can strike a deal with your neighbors for a couple weeks and just stick your bags in their can? Inconvenient? Sure, but beats paying $25-$100 for a can you'll get for free in a couple weeks.

    John,

I understand the legality of the issue & the possibility of misuse but a 1 timer like this should be honored 'in my opinion'. But then since thats not going to happen, I rest my case and will wait for April. BUT BUT, if New Vision asks me to return the trash can as someone has suggested when the new service takes over, thats going to be BAD, really BAD.

Did I read correctly that those of us in townhomes are going to get stuck with smaller trash bins from the new company? Doesn't make sense to me.. just because someone lives in a townhouse doesn't mean they generate less trash...

really? We never got a trash can from them. They were out so we got a cheapie brown one that they broke the wheels off twice. I called several times to get a replacement and nothing.

    Are they expecting them back?

Also, when do the new cans get delivered? I see them by the pool. I'm dying to get one!

Most folks in THs just don't have the room in their garage for the big can. If you want a large size one send me an email and I'll ask Patriot if they will deliver one to you.

New Vision will not be charging for missing cans when they are picked up. Patriot will be delivering the new cans during the month of March.

    thanks Maureen!

Also, do the townhome cans have lids attached? I'm okay with a smaller size as long as the lid is attached.

    thanks!
