I know there is probably a thread already out there about this topic but I thought I'd ask anyway. After two years of going to Stream Valley Vet the time has come to find another pet doctor. The one thing I do like about Stream Valley is the outdoor area. Is there another vet that has the same kind of set up? It's not a deal breaker, just a nice feature. Anyway, recommendations appreciated.

Are you looking for a boarding facility?

We take our dog and cat to Caring Hands in the Teet shopping center. We've been very happy with the vets there and the people are very nice.

We board our dog at Old Mill in Leesburg. We used to have them be his vet as well but they were pushing some rather expensive dental work that our current vet does not thing is that necessary.

We take our dog to Pam Grosso at the Ashburn Farm Animal Hospital over by Giant in the Farm. We love her! Used to go to Dr. Jones, but I got tired of his assistants always in our face trying to get us to get teeth cleaning for over $700 for our dog. Pam is also a holistic vet, which is great, she doesn't believe in all these vaccinations (except for Rabies of course) that most vets want you to get.

That's three for Dr. Grasso ... she is awesome, and has wonderful dogside manners. :)

And a vet that doesn't want to do shots every year and rather checks titers is okay in my book.

Unfortunately for us some time back we had an extremely bad experience at Ashburn Farm Animal Hospital with our cat. They told us we had to have 3 teeth pulled on our, at the time, 4 - 5 year old cat. We had the procedure done and our cat was horribly traumatized. When we took her back for the checkup after the procedure they did not ask us to come back with her. In minutes we could hear horrible noises and then they came out to get us. I had to calm the cat down so they could get her out of the crate. I've never seen nor heard our cat sound like this.

Our current vet has looked at our cat's teeth and can see no signs that there was any reason to take the teeth out. Our cat also loves him. She's now gone from being the 5 star cat as ashburn village to being the best cat caring hands see all week. Now this was years ago but I will never go back to ashburn village after that.

You mention Ashburn Farm and Ashburn Village. Which one removed kitty's teeth?

Whenever the tech's tell me they are running my pet out back I ALWAYS insist on being there and they have to comply.

One thing I've noticed about AVAH - the office is too small for the number of vets and techs running around. It's chaotic and they've made too many errors, all around, for the errors to be coincidental.

We have had great results from the Leesburg Veterinary Hospital. Drs. Erwin and Stricklands are wonderful.

I've used Catoctin Veterinary Clinic since 1980. Since Dr. Pease retired, we see Dr. Robbins now. Last week, we had to have our very old dog euthanized and he and the staff were just wonderfully caring and compassionate.

We tried Stream Valley because of the convenience but we were never happy. I felt they didn't use discretion between which tests and procedures were necessary and precautionary. It was like they were pushing for whatever you were willing to pay. We now drive all the way out to Centreville to our old vet who we love and trust. Clifton-Centreville Animal Clinic.

I ditto Catoctin. Both dr. Pease and Dr. Robbins are wonderful, Cornell trained ,Vets. They never push "extras" and are very reasonably priced.

Catoctin! Not a big town vet or a chain, just a lot of caring people, who know their stuff. Definitely recommended.

I have to put in a good word for Dr. Converse and Dr. Desantis over at Animal Medical Centers of Loudoun in the Brambleton shopping center next to California Tortilla (on the back side of the building). Their site is http://www.loudounvet.com/home.html
They take terrific care of our two dogs and elderly cat, and will never push unnecessary procedures on pet owners if they're not needed. Very, very nice thing in today's tough economy.

I'm with Technosapien! We've used Dr. Converse in Brambleton since we got our puppy last May and that office is terrific. When we first got our puppy, we had trouble with worms (common from breeders) and every time we brought him in, Dr. Converse personally called after a day or so to see how Mojo was doing! That's something you hardly ever hear any more, even from pediatricians! Very reasonable price-wise, too!

Ashburn Farm Animal Hospital and Loundoun Vet in Brambleton is owned by the same two Veterinarians in case you cannot get in at one location. It makes retrieving patient information much easier. I still wonder why they haven't upgraded to a computer network yet for tracking patient data as AVAH did a couple of years ago.
