Any comments from anyone attending the meetings at Legacy or Mill Run? Are there any actual proposed plans out there?

No proposed plans. People can submit plans if they'd like. Staff will consider any input and propose a recommended plan to the School Board. At that time, residents will have opportunities to weigh in on the plan.

Note that 653 moves the section of Broadlands west of Waxpool and south of Truro Parish to Creightons Corner...

Although my son won't start school for 3 more years, it's a little disheartening to see that all three plans have him going to elementary schools in Brambleton when we live next to Broadlands right off of Croson....Makes no sense....

From a selfish standpoint, all 3 work for us as our son will stay within the community and go to Mill Run.

I'm not affected by any of the three right now but I would oppose 653. I think all Broadlands kids should be able to stay at Mill Run. Note if you add DN32 back into Mill Run, it stays under capacity at least for the first year.... Is the only way to provide input via submission of a proposed boundary plan?

Currently, Village of Waxpool kids, many of whom are probably less than a mile from Mill Run, go to Legacy.

Village of Waxpool also goes to Stone Hill Middle instead of Eagle Ridge - 2 min. walk vs. 15 min. bus ride. Proximity to the school does not seem to matter in this case. All three plans posted show VoW moving to Creighton's Corner. As a VoW resident, I'm hoping that does not happen since our kids were just moved last Sept. Two yrs. in a row will be a little hard on them.

When I lived in South Riding, I had friends that lived just outside of South Riding proper. Their kids were bused pass the 2 elementary schools in South Riding and went to a third school 15 minutes away. Their are just a lot of kids and someone has to go somewhere else. Unfortunately not everyone can be happy. I think that is why I made sure that my house was within a block of a school when we were looking. I could have gotten a much nicer and bigger home in another area but I was concerned with rezoning all the time since I experienced it as a child myself.

This has happened for years. I grew up in Fairfax county and 25 years ago, the boundries changed on a yearly basis. I will say that I have stayed friends with people I went to middle school with that I didn't get to go to high school with because our bonds were strong.

Living a block away from a school is irrelevant. Last year, they wanted to send all the kids living in the townhomes directly behind Hillside over to Mill Run. They quickly modified the plan, but I just want to stress that even if you live across the street from a school, they have to draw a line/boundary somewhere, and in many cases, those lines make no logical sense to residents. You need to remain vigilant and voice your concerns each time the boundaries are reworked. Logical proximity can increase your 'chances' of being assigned to a particular school, it by no means guarantees it.

I agree with you; making smart decisions when buying your home, especially when you have a family, is critical when it comes to schools, etc. I did the same thing as you! My kids comes before my comfort.

Yes and no. You can submit a plan if you want but the plans that are submitted are posted so the public can comment on them -- this is the feedback they are looking for. You can't be silent and assume that they will take your viewpoint.

BTW, its a fun little detective game to decipher the submitter's motives -- which school he/she wants his/her kids to go to. Some of the HS plans have hilarious gerrymander'ed districts.

So how do I comment on a proposed plan, via email, phone call? I need help figuring out how to voice my opinion on the proposed plans - I'm new to this process. THanks for any input.

Did anyone go to the community input meeting last night? I went on Tuesday but was wondering what went on last night.

    Thanks.

Most of the pseakers last night were talking about Western Loudoun's boundaries. Some of the Regency folks stepped up and complained about the proposed new boundaries and I really feel sorry for the kids who live there. If they get moved some of the kids will be in 3 different schools for k-5 grades. People who live on the West side of Belmont Ridge (closest to Legacy) liked the plan as they get to stay at Legacy, but they should really be moving to Creighton's Corner. I think if they had included more schools in the plan/decision making they could have made most of the region happy, but that did not happen.

All in all not bad, but I think the Board members who were there did spend much time making eye contact with the poeple who were speaking. Too many laptop screens opened for my tastes.

    Enjoy!

Personally, I find this disgusting that Board members are looking at Laptops during a public input meeting. I noticed this at the HS boundary meetings and a few of us were wondering if someone was listening or just playing solitaire. I very much appreciate what the school board does, but laptops are just inappropriate at such meetings.
