    Sad and scary indeed. Something indeed to keep us mommies wide awake all the time when our children are outdoors....needless to say besides millions of other chores in between.

    Re: Sex Offender - Broadlands Plaza

    Don't know if this is news to anyone else, but I haven't checked this list since we purchased our home last summer so it was news to me. If you check the VA State police website for sex offender by zip code for Broadlands (20148) there is a registered sex offender with details of sexual violation against a minor child. Place of employment is Mezza Grill in Broadlands Plaza.

    This posting is to inform since this is such a family community, not to enrage anyone. I have no ill will against the restaurant. Just an FYI, from one concern parent to another.

    If you're concerned about this issue, you can go to the Virginia State Police sexual offender registry website and sign up for notifications;

    http://sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov/sor/index.html

    They send you an e-mail when there's a new registration or a change in your area, or you can search by zip code, etc....

    Did you call mezza grill to confirm that this person is STILL employed there before posting this? Seems only fair since they may have let him go since the sex offender website was updated...

    In all honesty, it never occurred to me to call Mezza Grill. As a business owner they should do their own criminal background check on new hires. The registry states it was updated as of Feb 2, 2011 so I assume it's current information. It also lists Coney Island Diner as an additional place of employment. This was not an easy post for me. I'm not wanting him to be fired and have no place of employment, nor do I want the restaurant to suffer, but I wanted to share the information so people are aware and vigilant and they do not allow predators easy access to their children. Sadly, in everyday life we are probably exposed to numerous violent offenders and have no idea--this one happened to be registered.

    The record was last updated on February 2nd, so as of that date, he was still working there.

    That link was from the previous 2009 posting on another sex offender in the area. Don't know if that one is current. I posted regarding another offender. I didn't post a link but you can look up on VA state police sex offender registry and put in Broadlands zip (20148). According to that listing the one I was referring to lives in Lansdowne, works in Broadlands.

    YIKES, there is a guy that works at Papa John's in Ashburn, he's a convicted rapist. Let's hope they don't send him to deliver pizzas!

    Re: Sex Offender - Broadlands Plaza

    I read on the Police's website and an undercover law enforcement fraternity brother of mine confirmed that they are legally able to work at these restaurants/businesses. He told me that it is illegal for anyone to "harass" the person anywhere and he warned that most businesses do have "caller id" of those that are inquiring about someone as most businesses worry about the safety of their employees and often will find out who is calling them. THey can trace the number back and sometimes will give the information to the "offender" if the business feels that the employee is being harassed. He said that many of these businesses KNOW of the employee's criminal past but choose to keep the employee knowing very well that many may have made a mistake that they regret. I've looked at the website...some offenses are new and some are awhile back. I wouldn't call the place of employment but rather just not frequent the place at all.

    Just passing along what my buddy stated.

    My sister lives in a beautiful section of southern CA. There are literally hundreds that live and work within miles of her beautiful upscale community. Just because Ashburn seems so clean and family oriented we can't let our guard down for the protection of kids or ourselves. We are lucky that the numbers are relatively low, but that list is just the ones that are registered....that's the disturbing part.
