The Sam's Club Fuel Center Grand Opening is Tuesday, 04/28/09. I met a friend at Chick-fil-A at Dulles Crossing and window shopped with her at Sam's Club.

We were at Sam's Club today and the store manager told us that the Wal-mart in Leesburg will become a Supercenter in 2010. The Dollar Tree is closed (or is in the process of closing as well as other stores) and Wal-mart will expand in that strip mall space to become a Supercenter.

Apparently, Wal-mart and the counties of Loudoun and Fairfax have been "going round and round" the last few years trying to convert their
Wal-marts to Supercenters. The Fairfax County Wal-mart will be converted in 2011 to be a Supercenter also. Of course, the Dulles Landing/Arcola Center Wal-mart Supercenter and Super Target is not being built because of the credit crunch for financing currently (per the Sam's store management).

The managers at Sam's Club told us that the Wal-mart in Sterling that is being renovated to become a Supercenter will officially be converted the end of September or first of October 2009. Yes, all the converted Wal-marts will be 24 hour stores. The Leesburg Wal-mart is finally approved to convert to a Supercenter. The county of Loudoun BoS was concerned of the 24 hour Supercenter and not having enough police enforcement. The store manager said that now the Loudoun County Police Department is staffed to handle that "situation" and all that entails.

I've always said, "why did they waste money remodeling that Wal-Mart instead of making it a supercenter?" That is great news because Super Wal-Marts give you more bank for your buck in grochery shopping with coupons.

Wal-mart and Supercenter Wal-marts (ALL STORES) will also match Competitors. Just take an advertisement or flyer to prove that someone else has a cheaper price on the item(s) you are buying. Also, the Wal-mart and Supercenter Wal-marts will "price-match" grocery stores, drugstores, and other retailers. Check out garden products too for "price-matching".

Happy Fall to "y'all"--

Today I had some errands and shopping at Lowe's in Sterling and decided to check out the progress on the Sterling Wal-mart Supercenter. I talked to one of the district managers and asked when the "official re-grand opening" would be announced. She informed me that the "soft grand opening" would be 10/28/09. Then the "real grand opening" would be 11/11/09.

I asked how large in square footage would the Supercenter be built out to. She said it will be the LARGEST SUPERCENTER on the east coast. About 300,000 square feet. :scaredeyes: Right now, Gloucester, VA has the largest at 220,000 square feet and up.

By 11/11/09, the garden center will be refurbished and everything will be new and "green and eco-friendly". Also, ALL Wal-marts/Supercenters have a "price matching" policy.

I stopped by earlier today at the new Sterling, VA Wal-mart Supercenter. I saw signs stating that the Grand Re-opening would be 11/11/09, Wednesday. The store looks great--just needs the Food Center/Grocery Store finished. Perishables, dairy, frozen foods, bakery, produce, etc. needs to be stocked. Some dry goods and canned goods are already stocked.

Wal-mart stores and Super Wal-marts "price match" for food and other products. Check out Hot Coupon World's site for info.

On a sidenote, has anyone ventured in to the Wal-mart Supercenter in Sterling yet? We just heard it opened recently. Opinions--or not?

I have to admit, I like it a lot.
I used to HATE HATE HATE going to that Walmart but the addition of an extra entrance plus the space makes it much easier to get through and a better experience overall.
The parking lot has always been my biggest gripe there, but now that there are two entrances, parking is easier to find and more spread out. I don't know if they added parking or not, but I'm thinking they may not have? I dunno.
The grocery section is huge and very nice. The prices are good and there are a few things I'll go there specifically to buy now. For instance, Morningstar products are probably a good dollar plus cheaper than the grocery store. Target has good prices on Morningstar as well.
The shoe department makes way more sense and although it looks smaller it's organized well. Although I couldn't find boys shoes or boots so I was confused.
They have the "inexpensive" shoes hanging on pegs kind of like you see with flip flops but I like that.
By the way, last time I was there, they still had the $7 black friday price on winter boots and winter bubble jackets. Not the warmest jackets but they're fine for 40 degrees and up which is what we're used to around here anyway. I was there a little less than a week ago.
I'm glad it's remodeled. As much as I dislike Walmart, half of it has to do with the way the store was as a whole, just not fun to get into or go through. But they have great prices on certain things and you can't deny that.
My only complaint was that they were out of a toy that my son wants for xmas, but it was $10 cheaper than other places so I understand why!!

 

I, too, despised the Sterling Wal-Mart in its former configuration. I am now a convert with a deep appreciation of the nice wide aisles and plenty of space to shop without feeling as if I am in a never-ending traffic jam of carts.

The new grocery area is very nice. A quick spot check of prices showed that they are very competitive on most items. And they also carry some stuff that others don't. Of particular note is the fact that they are the only store in this area that stocks "true" whole briskets (i.e., packer's cut in cryovac)... and the price is right at only $1.86/lb. Can you say "cheap and tasty BBQ"?

I will certainly add Wal-Mart to my rotation of regularly visited grocery stores.

 

Loved the wide aisles and spacious feel. With their good pricing and price matching policy, grocery area and spaciousness, I'll probably be heading over there quite a bit for the basics.

 

I was in there the other day looking for Soy Nut Butter. It is under $3 there! It is close to 7 at the Harry Tit.

 

I think you're a little strong with your criticism there Steve. I've found great deals at HT, especially when combining it with coupon offers and their $10 off over $50. Their HT brand stuff is always a bargain. I shop a lot at Wegman's as well. They have good prices also. They both have their benefits.

 

We also like HT. They have, by far, the best trained, friendly, knowledgable staff.
That being said, we are careful about what we buy there. They have some things we can't find elsewhere, but their day-to-day mainline products are more expensive than most.

 

The secret to shopping at the Teet is to cherry pick their weekly specials. By limiting the items purchased to those that on sale, one can rack of huge savings. On more than one occasion I have raised the eyebrows of a checker who, upon seeing the amount I saved, has said, "wow, you really know how to shop!" Additionally, the Teet is the only store in town where "buy one get one free" actually means "rings at half price"; that is, you only have to purchase a single item to realize the 50% discount.

Also, mentioning coupons, etc., Wal-mart will accept Competitor Store Coupons just like Harris Teeter. If you go to Hot Coupon World it will post advanced sales ads for grocers, "Big Box" stores, drugstores, home center/hardware stores, office supply stores, etc.

Also, HCW has a great resource for other retail and shopping sales. Great info. HCW has tons of great and informative info for coupon clippers and non-coupon clippers. I blog on there also with others for sales, etc.
