Just an FYI - We are on Chickaocan and we just had someone ring our doorbell and when we went to the front door there was burning paper on the porch (with dog poop in it). We called the sheriffs office.

Personally I think it's a liitle excessive to call the sheriff's office. What did they say/do?

Not at all this is always just the beginning. 2 years ago in Sterling the ding dong ditching and pee in a cup they later found out was a way for people to case houses. So CJA Thank you for calling the cops!!!!!
It is important if we want to keep even the petty stuff from occurring that we call in everything that is suspicious and make it as unfriendly as possible for anyone looking to cause trouble.

this happened to us last year in a series of pranks. call the cops- they need to build a case if it escalates, like it did in our case.

Maybe you would feel differently if someone set a fire on your front porch right by your door. I don't mind kids ringing doorbells but when they set something on fire that crosses the line. The police did talk to a group of kids in the area but I don't have any other information until I talk to the officer that responded later today.

Starting a fire on/at someone's house is very serious and needs to be reported! There's a family without a home today because their house burnt down on Mother's Day. Think about that.

What if no one had been home to answer the door and the fire continued to burn? Not good.

Kids have no originality these days, I mean seriously, this prank is how old, 30 years... Come on, all that Loudoun County education and that is the best you can come up with, :)

I certainly didn't mean to imply that it is okay to burn down someone else's house and sorry if y'all took it that way. Guess I just pine for the days when neighbors talked to each other, everyone knew everyone's kids, and when something like this happened, you gave it a day or two and you would know who did it and the parents would handle it accordingly (someone would get a whupping).

I've also been a little desensitized out here. When I called the police after my soft top roof was sliced on my car and had about $700 worth of stuff taken from my car and the cops were surprised that I wanted to file a report.

I don't know. But my point is, a fire burnt that family's home down on Mother's Day, and the poop bag fire started at our other neighbor's front door could have had the same result only this time... they were home and some of them were still sleeping.

I believe it was a propane tank on the deck behind the house. It wasn't a home in Broadlands, but in a home near the Shellhorn/Waxpool area.
We passed by the house over the weekend and it was a VERY sobering experience. To see the devastation and to think about the family that lost everything...

I was told that a heat lamp keeping a chick warm in the backyard fell over and caught the box on fire, which then spread to a deck umbrella that was laying nearby which then caused the propane tank to go up. A terrible chain of events.
