I do not know where on Highview the cat was seen. "Neighbor" stated in a post on 5/18/09 that there was a black cat in his/her yard. I wasn't home at the time :(. I sent Neighbor a Private Message asking for more info, but I haven't heard back.

New sighting tonight on Park Creek Dr in SW. The cat was seen near the drains behind the Townhomes on Avonworth Sq and Marburg Terrace.

There sure are a lot of outdoor black cats in the area... I wish I could just find mine.

I am pretty sure I saw Sunflower this morning around 4:30AM (up with the toddler) sniffing around our bushes and drinking some left over water in our driveway.

    Ridgeway/Sunstone - SW

I got a can of tuna and we had a stare off with each other, but a car drove by and spooked him. He darted off to my neighbors bushes. I just came back from a walk and the tuna can is empty.

Good job at least feeding him :) Lost kitties can get pretty hungry.

Besides next time he might come a little closer to you.

The way to a cat's heart is through his tummy.

First time post on this thread. This is like watching a good show. Great news! I hope this is it and that Sunflower is soon found! I find myself looking around while driving here in Broadlands... those signs really work.

I hope this cat is Sunflower and I can finally bring him home! There is a thread under "For Sale and Lost & Found" named "Stray Cat - Windover Dr." that mentions a black cat on Stonesile Place. The black cat in that thread has a collar. Sunflower was not wearing a collar when he got out.

I looks like I have to start making some more signs... a bunch got pulled down again. I know some people are getting sick of seeing them, but they are the best way to keep people looking.

Would it be a good idea for lilpea to keep putting out tuna? Will cats think to keep checking back at places they got food from? This might be the key to catching Sunflower! (fingers crossed). I'll donate the tuna if you'd like!

New sighting - Broadlands Blvd just before safeway (going towards Claiborne). Big, long haired, black cat with fluffy tail. The cat let two little boys pet him until they tried to grap him and the cat ran away. This is interesting - this cat is a house cat since it let people pet him and this cat is very close to home. He was seen around 8pm last night, but the woman just called this morning because she couldn't find my # since all the signs were torn down!

Haven't heard any news from SW - Ridgeway. I would love to see the cat over.

    Enjoy the beautiful day!

Around 8:45 p.m. tonight, spotted a long haired black cat in front of Broad Run High School (off of Ashburn Road). Long fluffy tail with no collar. I was walking my dogs and they scared him into the bushes in front of the building.

lindpro - thanks for posting and looking! I just checked my computer, so I will look back in that area tomorrow.

    Latest sighting:
Back to Southern Walk - Ridgeway & Mapleton. Didn't see the cat once again.

IF YOU SEE A LONG HAIRED BLACK CAT, CALL 703-724-9434 or 571-283-5050

Here is the latest on the search for Sunflower:

Southern Walk - Ridgeway: We think we found the cat in this area. It looks a lot like Sunny, but is actually a Mommy with a little kitten living under a deck. She is hungry and came out to eat some tuna in a big hurry. We couldn't get very close, but we are pretty sure it isn't him.

New sightings (actually revisiting an old area)
    1) Houses and apartments around the old Shoppers Food Warehouse on Ashburn Rd. Black long haired cat comes to eat at an apartment in the Fields of Ashburn.
    2) Black cat comes to eat food in a garage of a home off of Carthagena Court (houses behind the apartment complex.
    3) Black cat comes to eat food in a garage of a home off Channing Court (house across the street from Broadlands Community Church).

I hope to get a call this evening from at least one of these areas.

Just trying to keep the hope alive.

Please folks, if you're feeding a stray or feral cat (and it's fertile), contact the Humane Society of Loudoun County (703-777-2912) and ask for TNR assistance. The line is staffed by volunteers so you may have to leave a message and wait a day or two for a return call. The TNR acronym stands for Trap, Neuter, and Release/Return. It's a humane way of trapping in-tact feral and/or stray cats and sterilizing them to stop the breeding process that's contributing to the community's homeless feline population. The Humane Society will assist in trapping and vet costs (surgery, vaccines, deworming, defleaing) and return the cat to your neighborhood.

Please visit this link for feral cat FAQ.

Unfortunately, many people innocently, and out of the kindness of their hearts, feed these strays and ferals without any foresight to the long term consequences.

As with all things, I believe education is key but lacking this, the program offers an alternative solution to "stabilize" the existing population of homeless cats before it gets out of hand.

"How Does TNR Benefit the Community?
TNR helps the community by stabilizing the population of the feral colony and, over time, reducing it. At the same time, nuisance behaviors such as spraying, loud noise and fighting are largely eliminated and no more kittens are born. Yet, the benefit of natural rodent control is continued. Jesse Oldham, ASPCA’s Senior Administrative Director for Community Outreach and the founder of Slope Street Cats, an organization dedicated to feral cat welfare, notes, “TNR also helps the community's animal welfare resources by reducing the number of kittens that would end up in their shelters—TNR creates more space for the cats and kittens who come to them from other avenues.”

And typically, when a feral cat is TNR'd the Vet will notch or tip one ear to indicate it has been spayed, sparing it from future trapping and future surgery. It's a universal symbol. So don't be surprised if one day, your outdoor cat, that went missing for a week or two, returns home with a v notch in its ear. While I've never heard of this happening it would be wise to keep a collar on your outdoor cat and have it microchipped so the Vet can ID it before any surgery is performed!

Thank you so much for checking in and asking about Sunny. We were getting sightings in the townhome complex behind Shoppers and the Village neighborhood just across the road. We posted many signs in the Village, but received a call today telling us not to put up anymore signs because it is against HOA rules and they've been getting complaints. I guess I will have to put flyers on doors. I haven't heard any new news from the Farmwell Hunt garage sighting. I got a crazy call the other night from a guy who pulled a cat (that meets Sunflower's description) out of under the hood of a car in a parking lot of the apartments way over by the Ashburn GW campus off Rt 7. Of course the cat was gone when we got over there. There as also a sighting in a neighborhood right near the library off of Hay Rd. Tonight all has been quiet, probably due to the storms. I'm trying my best to keep hope alive.

Have you thought about putting out some of those humane traps in the areas where he's been spotted?

We have a humane trap that is probably cat sized if you want to borrow it.
