Trash and yard waste will not be collected on Memorial Day - Monday, May 25, 2009 due to the closing of the Loudoun County landfill. Yard waste will be picked up on Wednesday, May 27th and trash and recycling will be picked up May 28th.

Please pass this information onto neighbors who may not be Forum members.

Considering the number of people who have trash out, Patriot should consider a different way of disseminating the information. Especially considering that cancelling Memorial Day pickup is completely different from the main post at the top of this page. Thanks!

The Loudoun County landfill had previously been open on Memorial Day. We only found out right before the weekend that they would be closed.

Thank goodness! The grass clippings and compost are really starting to stink up our garage, I was afraid of what it would smell like by next Monday.

Suggestions for improvement? We make information publicly available. The only way to be more proactive is to individually contact people - for which Patriot doesn't even have records of to do.

There is lots of options to get news from the HOA if people chose to use it. But if you want to be informed - it's a two-way street.

THe HOA also posted notices on the signs coming into the community. Neighbors could have read those, if they don't read the forums. The HOA had limited time to act and I think they did a good job of notifying. A special mailer would have cost a lot of money and it probably would not have arrived in time to notify residents.

Armstrong Connect gives the HOA the ability to issue mass emails and phone calls much like the Loudoun County Public Schools use, however few residents have signed up for the program. Complete instructions are on page 10 of the June newsletter - due in your mailbox this week.

Yes, I know.. but our contractors don't have that.. they'd have to go through the HOA which was kind of my point. Don't blame Patriot :) They are a contractor - they don't have direct contacts with the homeowners like you might expect from the school, etc.

But the HOA could pass information out to the residents if more of them signed up to Armstrong Connect. We wouldn't want the contractors to contact residents without going through the HOA any way.

Another thing to be Twittered! Maybe a blurb can be put in the July newsletter about the pool updates as well as one for general HOA stuff. Give the twitter url and people can sign up to follow....

The problem is it is always the same small proportion of residents that sign up for this stuff...the majority just float along blissfuly unaware until they miss an important update or bit of news, then the phone is ringing off the hook!

Thanks so much for the feedback on how the information was disseminated. Also for letting me know that the landfill closing announcement was made on Thursday.

Just an FYI -- according to the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility website, the landfill will be closed on Labor Day. Will there be trash pick-up on Labor Day?

    http://loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=744

Thanks so much for your help!

We are working out the details with Patriot now. Likely it will be the same situation, yard waste on Wed and trash and recycles on Thurs. The final decision will be in the July and August newsletters.

It's 3:35pm - my yard waste has not been picked up yet. (I am in the townhouse section of SoutherWalk). Any idea if they are running late? I see so few yard waste out, so it's not the volume that's slowing them down....

Please send me your address - send to mburns@broadlandshoa.com - and I will see if your section was missed. Pls remember, if the yard waste is in a plastic bag it cannot be picked up. Loudoun County requires the use of paper bags for yard waste.
