One of the things that has impressed me about this new DD is the service. I am glad that the owner has recognized that in this economy success depends on more than just the product offered (which is yummy) but also on the quality of service given.

I hope other store owners are watching. There is only so much money going around these days. There are more stores than money. So when the customer is making their decision they are looking at a bunch of factors. Customer service is one that many customers consider and shops don't.

Good job DD and the best of luck to you!

i'm sorry- i had to giggle at your story- YOUR order was probably more expensive than theirs! lol

i've seen the "blame game" that you mentioned- i know they mean well and feel under TREMENDOUS pressure to get it right the first time. i can remember being new on a job and scared to death of being blamed for an error i didn't make and getting fired! i'm sure the manager will have a talk with them about fixing the problem with a smile immediately for the customer, then working it out amongst themselves in the back LATER. :boxing:

Sooo, not sure I would want my sandwiches back if the other patrons already opened the wrapper :eww: nor should the server return them to the original customer!

And, what's the harm of waiting anyway?

KMJTT - I was at DD around 1130 - I may have witnessed this incident or else something similar happend about that time as well.

However I will say the place was packed and I saw nothing but smiles on all the employees. I waited in line for about 8 minutes - no biggie I expected that - it was my choice to stay knowing full well it was really crazy. I got my large iced coffee and went over to the stand by the door to get my napkins, sugar and straw when the cup slipped out of my hands and of course spilled on the floor - I immediately went to tell the management - not wanting anyone to slip - and it was taken care of pronto and I get a fresh drink too. As crazy as it was - Everyone behind the counter was really doing their best to take care of the line quickly and efficiently - and like it has been said on this board MANY times - you need to expect bumps for the first few weeks of opening. Great Job DD - I am so pleased you are open and hope to visit a few times a week :)

Jimmy - GREAT customer service. I sent you a PM & email with more details as it relates to potential training improvement, but over all your staff is wonderful and really fast.

FWIW - in the 90's I worked at the BR (located in the Hunters Woods Plaza, Reston VA) for several summers. I definately understand the handpacking ice cream issue, it looked like they used the "scooper" tool instead of the flat spade.

    Again thanks for the response.

My family has been to the new DD 5-6 times already, and it has been a pleasure! We will be very fat soon. Since the parking lot is so full, it's best to walk, ride, or run there - for extra calorie burning too.
We have had no service issues, but with a newly opened store and such large crowds of anxious customers to serve, so what if there's a glitch or two.
It's silly that this is such a momentous occasion here in Broadlands, but there is a pitiful lack of decent bakeries and ice cream parlors (which are plentiful in other areas of the country) and we have been deprived for toooo long!

I have been very happy with the new DD as well, although they need to figure out a better way to manage the line(s). As you walk in there are two separate lines being formed and it's difficult to determine "who's next". It would be nice if they just had one line that snaked around so it's clear that the person at the front of the line is the next one to be served. Just my 2c.

It might be worth investing in some "Now serving # 21" equipment.

Just wondering if anyone else heard the rumor - that DD may close the Broadlands store? Apparently the property landlord raised the rent significantly as soon as the store opened - DD is not happy about this and feels it is a breach of contract and is going to sue the property owner. If it can not be settled the rumor is the store will leave that property. I almost choked when I heard this - I am not usually in the know so I hope "the messenger" was wrong. Anybody else know anything?
