Our GE Double ovens are about 11 years old and recently the LED display started fading. We can barely read the temperature, the clock sometimes brighter, other time not.

Anyway, has anyone had a similar problem and is it possible or worth trying to fix?

    Thx

We had to replace ours, when it became impossible to operate the display. I was told that most people sort of rock their finger back and forth when they press on the tabs. if you have nails it's worse and eventually can cut the wire to the tab, thereby disabling it. THe wires are very thin.

it cost about $150 with the GE repair gy they sent us when we asked for a service call online.

Not that this really helps but FYI we just replaced our 10 year old GE double oven with another of the same model, not because of the problem mentioned above, but to update to stainless. I can tell you that they have certainly improved the buttons. They are now more raised and easier to push than before. I'm very pleased with my new one!

Contact Sterling Appliances, and ask for an honest opinion. I got great information from them before I bought all new appliances.

Absolutely agree with the recommendation for Sterling Appliance.

Great folks, we've purchased multiple appliances from them (for our TH & current SFH). The staff is very honest and helpful - highly highly recommend them.

    WJZ and others--

You can also check out Tribles, Inc. in Sterling. Tribles has numerous locations in MD, VA, and PA areas. Tribles has been in business for over 30 years. They have ALL types of replacement parts for all appliances, humidifiers, and air conditioners. They are the BEST for hard-to-find parts (big or small jobs). You can also order online.

My husband and I have been buying from Trible's for years. Sterling Appliance is also great.

    Web sites are below--

    www.sterlingappliance.com (Sterling Appliance's site/info.)

    Good luck--

Funny timing to read your post...my husband and I were talking just a few days ago that we thought our display seemed to be more dim that it used to be? Not sure if it was our eyes but seemed different?
Find anything else out??? We have the GE double oven which is ~12 years old now VanMetre home.

We recently had this issue as well (GE double oven). The only option is to replace the circuit board -- a simple task, BTW. Ours was still within the 5-year warranty period (part only, labor was around $110), but since it appears most of our neighbors had the same issue, I'm sure the previously mentioned repair shops are well-equipped to take on the task. Our guy was here for 15 minutes, replaced the board, and it's been perfect ever since. SO nice to be able to read the display clearly, even if it's only to throw a pizza in there! :rolleyes3:

Very funny, indeed. The display on our 13.5 year old GE oven/micro has been turning itself off (disconnecting) every once in awhile. Sometimes we can't get it to reconnect immediately but eventually it does. It is most troublesome when we have something in the oven and the unit turns itself off in the middle and we don't notice right away.

I had assumed that having someone come out to fix the "computer" would be cost-prohibitive but I have hope given the experiences of others posted here! Thanks!
