So, I have been noticing this for the past week or so and haven't done anything about it. Thought I will post it here and get an opinion. Here goes...an elderly Indian man seems to cut flowers from the sidewalks every morning. Not sure for what though?!! Should I say something? Are there rules against this?

Is this the same man I've seen at the corner of Claiborne/ Waxpool?

It was not a landscaper but an older gentleman taking cuttings. It's a little unusual to see someone cutting flowers from a public space.

It was definitely not a landscaper.

Very funny! I saw this man cutting the flowers again this morning. I still don't know if I should say something.

You should say something. All of us pay for the landscaping with our dues.
So in a way this guy is cutting all our flowers!

Absolutely you should say something. I ran into a similar situation about a year ago on my daily dog walk. A foreign born individual was picking the pink petals and putting them in a baggie on Claiborne between Ridgeway and Stonehollow. As I approached, he put the baggie in his pocket. I stopped and asked what he was doing and stated the shrubbery is community property. He started mumbling his mumbo jumbo and tried to pretend he didn’t understand. I persisted, the dog started growling, and he went on his way. I haven’t seen him since. Perhaps he came your way.

Interesting, may be he did. I was not sure if there were HOA rules before I went ahead and gave the gentleman a warning. Cliff from HOA has confirmed I can complain. I did not see him this morning. But I will be on the lookout.

The elderly guy was probably picking some flowers to pray because as per Asian cluture, people like to pray every morning and offer flowers to their god.

I dont think it's a big of a deal, it's just couple of flowers and anyway, flowers dont last very long either.

Would you have noticed the missing flowers if you hadn't seen the guy cutting them?
My point is that I have no problems with my dues going toward community landscaping and allowing the community to take a few home instead of having them just die off in their beds. In fact, I would be in favor of my dues going toward a community flower and herb garden that could be shared. I'm sure it would be used as often as the community playgrounds are...

Mumbo Jumbo? Maybe you don't speak his language, but I doubt it was mumbo jumbo.

Wow is right, I found JJB's post beyond offensive, "foreign born" what a rude statement. :angryfire:

Just to show JJB's ignorance...Asia includes such areas as India & Pakistan.

Yes, they're just flowers and will be replanted or eventually replaced with something else.

Wish the landscapers were as attentive to all the common areas as they are with the lawns that have more public visibility.

I am so very offended by the comments of JJB. It is very reassuring to see how alive and well ignorance is thriving in "our" community. Ask yourself, what differnce does it matter what color or ethnic origin this person is who was picking the flower. If it were a Caucasian person, would the reference of skin color been made?

Back to subject of the post. is the picking of the flower or flowers causing you to lose money, taking food off of your table, or causing you illness? If the answer is no, get over it; there are more important things to be concerned about, like these undisciplined teenagers running around vandalizing our property!!!!!!!!!!

    Let the ignorance go! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I TOTALLY agree with you Milesk. There are people who like to waste their precious time for just couple of flowers and dont worry about other issues such as littering (baby diaper/Mac Donald bags etc.), vandalizing, breaking in etc.

I love our community but it hurts when people dont respect other's LANGUAGE and feelings.

Trust me that elderly guys is not a threat to our community.

    Thankyou!

Most of the flowers in the common area beds (roses, daylilies) will produce more flowers if the blooms are picked. So picking them is a good thing. I wouldn't sweat it. IMHO it's nice to see someone out enjoying the beautiful things in our neighborhood. I'd say something if he took ALL the flowers, or trampled them. Picking a few, that's nice.
