I have way too many books and it is time to clean house. Any thoughts on the best place to donate? And for some energetic person - a Broadlands book exchange would be pretty cool......thanks!

    My house!

If they are history books. :)

I would like to suggest you contact the Loudoun Literacy Council. http://www.loudounliteracy.org/

They may want them or can probably tell you who would.

If you don't mind driving to DC or shipping your books, Books for America is a great organization and you can deduct your donation on your taxes:

For the books I donate, I give to the Loudoun library for their annual (biannual??) sale which raises funds for the library.

I ALWAYS try to sell them first on Amazon and usually get a pretty good price. Downside is the shipping gets old after awhile.......

Hope's Treasure on Ashburn Rd. takes books as donations and you will receive a tax receipt for them too.
Also, you could freecycle them on www.freecycle.org There is an Ashurn group and I give books away through freecycle alot.

If you're up to it there is a McKay's used books in Manassas. We take all our books there every 2 months and receive about $150.00+ in credit.

A great place to donate is the Purcellville Thrift Shop which benefits Blue Ridge Hospice. They are located at 151 W. Main Street in Purcellville. Phone: 540-751-1680.

You can also try the Christian Fellowship Church near the Ashburn post office in Beaumeade Corp Park. The drop off area is around the back next to the thrift shop.
