    Back to the topic...

We have been to the pizza place three times. Each time the food was great. Two of the three times the service was slow and the place was packed.

It hasn't even been a month yet... I'm hopeful they will be able to work out the problems.

I totally agree with Chsalas. My wife and I also, felt sorry for the 2 teens who worked there. I'm not saying that teens aren't slackers, I'm just saying they appeared to be inexperienced, but trying. The place was packed and teens where obviously overwhelmed. We too, noticed that the man behind the cash register just sat there and did not appear to make any attempt to help (cleaning off tables, taking orders, serving etc.)

My food was ok, my wife's pizza was actually good.

I also believe that posting negative reviews are more helpful then positive ones. What would be the point if everyone would just post glowing reviews about everything? How would we as consumers with a finite disposible income get the most value for our money?

Every so often, i read a negative review of a business/service etc. and what follows is someone condeming the poster for being too picky or snobbie or something. It really doesn't make sense to me. If the original poster had a bad experience they should post it and not get attacked. If you had a great experience then post that. Don't pass judgement, just the facts please.

I too hope this place gets it's act together, but from my experience they have a long way to go ...

I agree, Broadlands Brick Oven was a total disappointment. I'm thinking, 'What a great deal, a nice pizza place so close to home.' But the food is so lame!!! Not disgusting, but just so mediocre that you wonder how someone could open a restaurant in nice neighborhood that has high expectations. This isn't the Rt. 1 strip mall, fast food corridor.

I ordered a grilled chicken salad. The chicken was so bland, no attempt to give it any flavor and it seemed more sauteed than grilled. The dressing was straight Wishbone - gloppy fructose-based stuff. So disappointing when you compare how well they do a simple grilled chicken salad at nearby Manhattan's.

My wife ordered pizza. Again, very mediocre. Amateur pizza. The sauce was kind of sour, seemed like it was straight Hunts tomato can sauce or something.

And finally, is the place really Brick Oven? Most brick oven places I've noticed, you can see the flames etc. This just looks like a typical restaurant broiler.

It's too bad, I would really have liked for this place to work out. But if you are starting out it seems like you ought to put your best foot forward right away, not go halfway with a lame product and then try and fix the whole model later.

Oh, and they got the pizza toppings wrong too. (It happens, but it's part of the trend at this place.)

There is a great brick oven pizza place on the other side of 28; called Emilio's. Excellent food. I will say thou, at the beginning, over 5 years ago, the service was deficient. It took time but they fixed the service shortly after opening. On the other hand, the food was top notice, right from the start.

Emilio's is in the same shopping center as Belfort Furniture.

I agree- Emilio's is great and kid-friendly. The servers are VERY young but a great example of the hard-working and respectful youth in our community. That reflects good management that hired and trained them.

Went to the Broadlands Brick Oven pizzaria a few days ago for lunch.
I found it to be clean and the service was fine. The pizza itself was average. Crust was and toppings were good, but the cheese and sauce (the heart and soul of good pizza) were bland.

We've had take out only pizza there, we think it has been pretty good. I don't really think it is a brick oven, looks like a regular pizza oven with "fake" bricks on the outside of it. When they open the door to the oven, you can see the stainless steel surround. Can they actually call it brickoven pizza if it isn't?

I had to take another look ... the interior of the oven is lined with white bricks, or white ceramic tiles. I couldn't tell for sure, but in either case, they serve the same function.

I think all commercial ovens have some sort of heat tiles or bricks. I guess I assumed for it to be called brick oven it would be more of an oven made of bricks, like the bread oven at Wegmans.

And while it is good pizza, in my opinion, it doesn't taste the same as wood fired brick oven pizza.

We did take out of the Pizza and Fried Shrimp dinner. The pizza was pretty good. Shrimp dinner was ok. The guy at the counter needs some help. He tried to charge us for a large pizza, when we ordered and received a small. They need help reading the order paper.

I went for carryout pizza on opening night and then this week for a sit-down dinner. I thought the food this week was really good. There was one waiter and he was very nice and efficient, and the owner came out a few times to clean tables and he brought our bill to us. When we arrived the place was empty but when we finished eating there was only one empty table there! The tuna sub was excellent, the gyro was good but missing tsatziki sauce (which we could have asked for but didn't really care that much), and the kid's grilled cheese well, it got eaten and that's a big success in our book! The fries are really good there. I disagree with the "nightmare" heading on this thread.

I'll have to agree with Audrey about the server, the young guy there is polite and very helpful. Good to see.

I want a local place that has the gyro spool that they cut the meat from! The closest I know is Knossos. All of these other restaurants just get it in a box or something.

    Exactly Boomertsfx,

If they are serving gyro and it's not being cut off fresh from the spool then it's a dead giveaway that this restaurant is lame. Frozen gyro strips out of a box just don't cut it!!!

Afghan place, Flame Kabob, over in Greenbrier Shopping Center in Chantilly area also has nice gyro cut off the spit.
