sooo- put out poison to kids to prevent pee from pups??? lol

i think i FINALLY have the solution: SILK PLANTS outdoors! they won't die, you can rinse off the pee smell, and they only need dusting now and then, no water!

    i- am a genius...

Moth balls are toxic. If dog owners cannot steer their dogs away from your shrubs then you could try a dog deterrent spray. There are several on the market but I cannot attest to their effectiveness. Or install one of the motion sensor water sprayers - could be refreshing to the dog owner too!

Yes you are a genius in my eyes!

after years of being nice I resorted to moth balls (as I said they toxic) but its kept dogs off our landscaping - I also put a "pepper" slurry out as well -

    1 cup of vin
    4-5 scotch bonnet (sp?)
1/2 cup of dried cheyenne pepper

Sorry to be harsh - but its cheap and effective. On a side note, our remote control for our irrigation system brings many a laughs.

Wish we had neigbors as conscientious and considerate as you!

Our yard is a landscape of yellow polka dots caused by a neigbor's dog's urine. The neighbor in question is hostile so any attempt to discuss this matter produces yelling and a pointed finger inches from your face.

Does anyone have a "reasonable" suggestion other than a motion detector spinkler system?

This is not a recent occurrence.

Well the main culprit in dogs "going where they want" is when they are on retractable leashes. Even the "Dog Whisperer" says not to use them. Keeva is kept on a 6 foot leash. She stops to smell all the areas her companions have used, but never deposits there. I go out of my way to keep her off anyone's grass - mainly walk right across the street to the weedy grass desert. We always walk on the trail and grab a bag. if she doesn't poop, then we keep it with us and use it on our next outing. These are placed in a tray right near the front door so we don't forget. We also take her to pee in different common areas - never near a tree or bush - as she picked up poison ivy and gave it to me. But she is a little dog and won't last more than 10 -15 minutes outside and does tiny poops...but I still find them:)

Do you know what the police would do? Would they issue a trespassing citation? If so, then I would imagine they'd have to reveal who the complaintant is which would make any peaceful existance difficult.

Well, it sounds like your "peaceful existance" is based on YOUR not complaining about someone's dog pissing in YOUR yard. It is obviously up to you to do something as your neighbor seems like a PRICKly pear. ;) Either do something like the automated sprinkler (which could make him even madder) or get the police involved.

But Bob, isn't it better to be pissed off than pissed on?

heheh, I know 8th grade bathroom humor, but it's funny.

I have a neighbor who has his dogs on a retractable leash and allows them to go all the way onto my yard and go on my plants. I saw this once when I was looking out the window and my presence looking at him wasn't enough for him to think what he was doing was rude. I have seen him do this to my neighbors as well. But then again this is the same neighbor who walks the neighborhood yelling on his cell phone while walking the dogs so...

Dogs need to pee too! Where is a good place? I think it's unreasonable to try and regulate peeing posts.

BTW, Ashburn Farm spent a lot of money trying to figure out why the base of our street lamps were deteriorating. After a scientific study it turned out it was dog urine. We fixed the problem by using a special protective paint. Should we also say dogs can't urinate on lamp posts? Are fire hydrants next?

BTW, who's to say the pee burns aren't caused by deer, racoons, cats, or vultures?

Just keep the hose on, and available near the front door. I'd spray them away if I saw them and they were unwilling to listen to me after earlier attempts at discussion.

If you have told them to stay off your property previously, then it would be tresspassing.

How about their own yard(s) if they have one.

Many people spend lots of $$$ to keep their lawns to their standards and would not like to them marred with yellow spots all over the place.

If a neighbor asks (preferably in a polite manner) a dog walker to not allow their pet to piss in their yard, it should be honored!

Yes - Dogs should do their business in their own back yard, but dogs need daily exercise as well and they're going to do their business then too. We have a dog and we walk daily. We never ever let our dogs wander on anyone's lawn to do her business. Our walks are always done along the paths in the common area/woods. I agree, those retractable leashes shouldn't even be sold in my opinion....we were coming down one of the paths yesterday and we spotted a dog up ahead coming toward us...it was a big dog, my husband and I both thought it was loose, but lo and behold - the owner shows up and of course the dog was on a retractable wandering all over the place.

Of course it should be honored, I don't think anyone is advocating otherwise. I took the main question to be about using the common area for doggie business.

Why single out dogs? What about the loose cats running around? Or those nasty rabbits, deer, chipmonks, foxes, etc. etc. They should try to control themselves if they want to live in our lovely neighborhood. And as for those birds that keep pooping on my car windows....

I walk our dog on the side of me between the sidewalk and the street. That way, no wandering onto people's yards and the worst that happens is the strip of grass gets used. We always pick up as well.
