Can anyone recommend a good Closet company to do a custom install in the master bedroom and basement pantry?

    Thanks

There is a company called Closets by Design (www.closetsbydesign.com) that was just advertised in the Washington Post Magazine. I also recommend Easy Closets if you want to do it yourself (or you can hire a handman for the installation). It is apparently very easy to do (I had a friend who used this company and was very pleased). I think you can get a discount through Costco on this system. Also, the Elfa system sold by the Container Store is awesome and easy to install. They will do the installation for a fee.

I am a professional organizer, and I personally love the Elfa system for clients. Very flexible, lots of options, and durable (but it doesn't have the 'cabinet' look and feel like some of the other custom systems). There are some very nice wood facing options, however.

Hope this helps...good luck and happy organizing!

My ex-neighbor used Capital Closet Designs in Tysons. Heard good things about them. They are also used by some home builders for their closet system.

I've used ELFA by Container Store and it's nice. My small closet (non walk-in) cost $500 and I installed it myself. Looks nice. Capital Closet does those "HOLY SMOKES THATS A NICE CLOSET!" kinda system and it's totally custom.

I don't think it cost anything to get it designed and priced at both places. I remember ELFA system usually goes on sale in Jan or Feb.

I did my closet with ELFA by Container Store in Tyson Corners on Rt 7, so easy to install and they design it to use every inch of my space

Are the Elfa systems really that great? The pictures I see on the Container Store website show minimal clothes (to appeal to the organization senses) so minimal clutter. My closet, is a disaster area. I have more than 4 sweaters and 3 pants. Do the systems really, I mean really help with a lot of stuff? Anyone have any pictures they'd care to share of their own personal closet?

ELFA works GREAT. Stop by and look at the closet spaces we have done.

Thanks for all of the great advice. I, too, questioned the Elfa system. I'll have to check it out and then start getting estimates.

We used EasyCloset.com. It's do it yourself, but very, very easy and 1/3 the price. Excellent quality. An entire walkin closet took me 1 day (not including prep time).

Would you mind sharing a picture of the work done by easyclosets?

I will upload some pictures. Note that you design and order from easycloset.com. You have to install yourself.

It looks great - thanks for sharing. Did you have any problems with walls not being plumb or level?

Have you tried using the closet organizer from Ikea, we used it in our last townhouse and the new buyers loved it. Very easy to put together and very inexpensive you can choose what you need drawers, shelves ,hanging rods, doors or no doors.

I did a little research for you (as a professional organizer, I couldn't resist :)). Here's another system that was designed for easy installation for the typical homeowner. It is recommended by an organizer who has been on Mission Organization (the show on tv).

    http://www.freedomrail.com/catalog/productlinehome.asp?plid=1

It has many neat features, and you can install drawers that look a little more 'drawer-like' than the Elfa. Just another option.

Might be worth checking out. Good luck.

We have installed many EasyCloset system for clients. They are a quality product for the price and you can design your own online.
I have two clients who we did work for (did not do closets) that ordered from Closets by Design and they were a mess. I think it took them six trips to get the closets right. There are many companies out there that would probably be a better choice.

This is my professional opinion, our company does not offer full service custom closets, we will simply install systems if you need that service. So I am not really partial to any company that does full service.
